Body fat percentage w/ a pic

Sep 27, 2012

I did a session with a trainer at the new gym I joined (it was FREE so why not, right?!) In doing so, I found out my body fat percentage is 18% !!!!   I have no idea what is was PRE surgery, but OMG! It's 18%
Never before my RNY would I have thought that my body fat would be "Normal" and a personal trainer would tell me I have "a solid core" ! Whaaaaaaaaaat?!!!?
Weeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!

That got me thinking about the transition my body has gone through. I just so happened to be wearing an almost exact outfit that I took a picture in and posted on OH back in April of 2011. Here is the 2 pics. The first is of me in April of 2011 and the 2nd was 2 nights ago on 9/26/12 @ 2 years out. I can see the difference in my rolls.

Thank you Pilates and Power 90!

I am proud to announce that I've been doing good on my eating. Since I've started working again I bring healthy snacks to work like Greek yogurt, almonds, turkey pepperoni, or fiber bars and I  have a protein and coffee shake every morning. IT FEELS SO GOOD TO BE BACK!! I've decided to do
October Unprocessed again. I really enjoyed it last year. I'm not going to go hardcore with it. But I will use it as a stepping stone to get back to eating clean and whole foods along with making some of my own dressings and stuff. It's great! And once you cut out all the fillers and preservatives in your diet you drop weight too! Who woulda thought! :)

I
made Asian BBQ grilled chicken the other night. It was SO good!

Cheers OH Fam!!

Back at it!

Sep 23, 2012

Spent 2 hours at the gym today! Felt SO good to be back at it! An hour long Pilates/Yoga fusion class followed by 45+ minutes of weights/cardio/stretching. It felt fantastic and made me remember how much I love taking classes and how good I feel after I make time for my health.  Always make time Karly. Always.

Why do I eat SO MUCH?!

Sep 17, 2012

Seems all I do is eat! And I'm not even kidding. I cook and eat all dang day. Perhaps because I'm not working right now? Perhaps I'm just mistaking my THIRST for hunger? Perhaps I'm just bored? Hmmmmm.... I know I'm bored and still not used to not working. I think I do better when on a schedule and without a stocked kitchen to meander into at any given time.

Today the majority of my day was devoted to the kitchen. I spent all day in there whizzing around making salsa, enchilada sauce from scratch, hand-shredding chicken, and then I made, assembled, and baked chicken eggrolls. OYYYYYY !!!! I'm beat! But at least I have food prepped for the week to make dinner less time consuming.

Oh, also! For anyone who likes Boars Head deli meats. I found Turkey Pepperoni made by them! SCORE! I haven't tried it just yet (too busy stuffing my face with numerous other things lol). But I'll report back if it's garbage!

On a different note. It's the last week of summer which makes this native Californian super sad. To think about pulling out my coat and winter boots makes me wanna eat - Go figure lol
But,.... in a last desperate refusal to soak up some sun - we hit the beach last weekend and I got one last tanning session in. It was a BEAUTIFUL cloudless day. So we grabbed a coffee and laid on the warm sand for hours. It was perfect. My bikini from the beginning of the summer still fit - So I guess I'm doing ok.

Oh, and Look - Here's me eating ...... WHAT A SURPRISE!

Inside my 2 years post surgery

Sep 09, 2012

This post is late by over a month - But better late than never, right?
I stepped on the scale today for the first time in a few months (Yes, you read that right.... I packed away my scale at the end of June and hadn't touched it since).
I was super surprised to see it read 126. Which means I've held steady at around my current weight for about 18 months now. WEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!! I started my WLS journey at 272 lbs and my body seems to be comfortable where it is now.

I had RNY to find a happy healthy life.... I am pleased to say "Mission Accomplished!" It took some struggles, A divorce, a few breakups and a lot of heart break, soul searching, life altering decisions, failures, successes, laughs and tears ..... But I am finally wholly and completely happy.

I will admit to you my OH Fam that I have stopped exercising! YIKES!!! This is a catastrophe! I feel the flab setting in y'all! And my balance and flexibility is off without Yoga and Pilates to set me straight. So - This I declare ... as of right now .... I WILL GET BACK ON TRACK!!
I recently moved and now that I'm settled (putting a house in order is a full time job, right!!) .... But now I have time to job hunt and get my booty to the gym! Winter is coming and I need to combat the "Pale and Round" effect that seems to happen in that time of year.

I'm on course to get back to eating "clean". There was a few months where I didn't have access to a kitchen to cook so I was eating out almost every day. In conjunction with not exercising regularly .... It's not pretty! But now that I'm settled I've been putting my kitchen to WORK! Chili, pulled pork, roasted veggies, tacos, grilled chicken, green salads OH MY! ;) However, I have allowed myself to indulge too much on snacks like chips and candy. So I'll be shutting that down. This girl will not fail!

My personal life is aces! I met the most amazing, caring, generous, thoughtful and handsome man. He's my future. He's my heart. I want things with him I've never wanted before..... Like babies! WHAT?! Yea, that's right! I want a family with this man! He has so much love in him to give I can't imagine not having a child with him to watch him love it.
I love him madly! It took a crazy circumstance that got me to move to NJ to live in a strangers basement to meet the man of my dreams and I'm never letting him go. EVER! My heart is full and happy.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So now here I sit 2 years out from the best decision I could have ever made. It wasn't always easy. I am not at all perfect in my Weight Loss Surgery journey. But I'd do it again in a heart beat to have the freedom from all those pounds. That jail of fat I was in.
I move now. I dance, I walk, I jog, I LIVE! I'll never go back to this:

Thank you for my new life Dr. Dunnican. RIP
