Surgeon Testimonial

Jeffrey T. Landers
I met my surgeon today 9/4. He seemed to mutter a bit, and he was younger than I anticipated, but I felt comfortable that he was more than competent. The only member of his office staff that I met was his medical assistant Robin. But in an earlier orientation today, I also met the bariatric program case manager Julie Grimm, and the Accomplish Weight Mgmt program director, Wendy McKennon. I liked them all very much. Robin had also had the gastric bypass and looked great.
Aftercare was highly important to Dr. Landers and there is a program with Accomplish Weight Management for 12 months of nutritional counseling.
Dr. Landers did address the risks of the surgery and discussed that if the lap rny did not look like it would work, he could do an other procedure. I would rate Dr. Landers very highly, of course this was my first meeting. Surgical competence is much more important, at least as far as my insides are concerned! He took time to answer all my questions and explained all to me.

Surgery in 4 days
on October 4, 2009 10:31 pm
Hi, everyone.  My surgery is October 8th (not sure of time until 10/7), and I think I'm pretty close to being ready, mentally at least!

I am excited, and not nervous...yet.  Surely the morning of, the nerves will start to fray a little, but my dh is staying at least the first night with me.  That will be comforting to me.  The hospital is 1-1/2 hours from our house, and we have 7 animals to care for; maybe a neighbor teenager can be hired to help with that!

I've gotten some awesome advice from OH, and enjoy the new friends I have made.  I'm taking my laptop, 3 books on gastric bypass and a journal as well as the basic of hygiene and comfort (chapstick, moist washing cloths (like baby wipes!).

I'll let you know when it's over and how I'm doing.  Loving this site and all of you lots!

The start of my WLS journey...
on August 25, 2009 5:06 pm
Hi, today is August 25th, and I will be seeing an internist on Sept 14th; if he gives the ok, I will work with a dietician for about 6 months to see if I can get off some weight and lose some of the fat in my "fatty liver" before setting a date for the surgery.
I am going to have the RNY; I wanted to have the adjustable lap band, but because of some meds I take, I am not a good candidate for it; I would also like to have the sleeve gastrectomy, but my insurance won't cover it.

I will be a friend to anyone who is going through the same journey, so if you'd like to write, feel free to do so!  Katie

My Story

Hi, I'm a 58 year old wife, mom and grandma.  I have 2-1/2 grandchildren, with a little grandboy due next month (sept 09).  I enjoy travel (did a 27 day rv trip with dh and dog last month going to Glacier NP, Mt. Rushmore, Yellowstone, Tetons, and points inbetween, including Deadwood S.D. and Cody Wy.  Had a great time!

I have struggled with my weight since I was 8-10 years old.  My Mom called me "pleasantly plump", a term I came to hate.  All my friends were normal weight and height, and I was short for my age (growth hormone deficient) plus overweight.  At 35, I was probably 135# (I'm 5'1" tall).  When I married at 50, I weighed about 180 and now I weigh 190.  I only reached a low weight once, and that was with Phen-Fen, which gave me mild mitral regurgitation.  I got down to 116# but couldn't keep it off.

I love to travel, play with my grandkids, enjoy my 4 dogs, 2 cats (one is`
