Surgeon Testimonial

Virginia McGrath-Weaver
My first impression was \"here is a really sweetheart of a lady who has confidence in what she does for a living and loves helping people. rnrnI was one of the few people that had severe anemia and ended up having two units of blood and she was right there with the bedside manner of friend you have known for life. rnrnI can not say enough about Dr. Weaver. I would not ever think of trying another doctor. She is the best.

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.
I had struggled since high school and thought this is just how it has to be. I was disappointed in myself for not having any self control. I felt like such a failure as a person. Even when my grandson who is 5 said, Mawmaw your big, knowing he was just saying what kids his age say, it hurt so badly I wanted to cry.

STARTED LIVER SHRINK DIET
on April 9, 2009 9:43 am
I started the Liver Shrink diet one week earlier than I was supposed to due to gaining about 6 pounds from Dr.'s highest weight.  I have heard that if you gain weight they will not do surgery and that is a risk I am not willing to take.  I also did all measurements from calves, knees, thighs, hips, waist, just under breast then including breast and neck.  That way when I hit the plateau in three weeks and so on I will be able to tell inches lost.

The liver shrink is really not bad.  I am using the Atkins Advantage that have 15 grams of protein, 1gram sugar, 160 calories and only 2 net carbs.  Drink 1 for breakfast, then about two hours later a small apple, then two hours later another shake two hours later SF Jello.  Then I have either a great salad with shrimp, tuna, grilled chicken.  If I feel a little hungry  two hours later I will have another Jello.  I don't have any scales but I can tell after only 8 days (started on 01APR09) my clothes fit nicer.  I thought the dryer was shrinking the length of my pants because they did not cover my ankles.  Well, now I know it was me!  My pants now cover my ankles and the tops of my feet.  WOW

I weighed when I went in for my pre-surgery blood work and weighed a whopping 249 #.  That may not sound too much for some people but I am only 5'3".  My hip circumference is also how tall I am.  So the saying I am as wide as I am tall is too true for me.

BUT--only 11 days until surgery!  Scared a little but ready.
