Surgeon Testimonial

Thomas J. White, M.D.
I really like Dr. White and his office staff. They really helped me get my surgery scheduled quickly. My job took me out of state and they have been so helpful in scheduling my visits and getting everything done.rnrnAs I'm sure you may have heard, Dr White is very quick and to the point but not in a rude way. I think he reads his patients and feeds off them. If he feels they know what is going on, he is quick and to the point but if you need more support, he is there for you too. I'm one off those who don't need hand-holding but the patient in the bed next to me sounded like she really needed support and he was very reassuraning to her.rnrnI can never say enough about Roxie and Sally and Beth and everyone from the office. They went above and beyond the call of duty as far as I'm concern.

12 Weeks Out - 32lbs Lighter
on July 24, 2007 8:41 pm
Hi Everyone,

It's been awhile since I've update this blog so I thought I better do so.

I'm currently down 32 lbs from my operation weight.  I can totally feel the difference even though it may not necessarily show.  I can tell the difference between my calf adnd ankle now.  No more 'cankles'!!!

There has been some challenges.  I've gone to a couple of food festivals this summer and believe me it was HARD!!!  Who can pass up 'deep fried Snickers'.  Now I ask you - WHO???

I've been excerising a lot but I can't seem to get rid of these darn 'bat wing' underarms.  Hopefully they will go away with time... and a lot of pull-ups!!!

Overall, I'm really glad I did this.  I would hate to think what I would look like if I hadn't.
Probably '32 lbs heavier'!!!!

Had my first fill...
on June 21, 2007 9:24 pm
I had my first fill yesterday.  It took longer for me to find a parking space then it did for the doc to do the fill!!!

I wish I would have eaten before because I'm 'starvin' now.  My stomach keeps rumbling but I'm not hungry.  The nurse said it's normal, gosh I hope so...

Getting Ready for 1st Fill
on June 12, 2007 7:08 pm
My first fill is coming up in one week.  So far my weight loss (to me) is fairly slow.  I have only lost 18 lbs in the first 4 weeks.  I know, I know, I should be patient but I'm ready for my new bikini !!!

Just kiddin'.

My doctor says that my weight loss is good so far and that I should really expect to see more loss after the first fill.  I'm starting my 'normal' diet.

It is amazing how different my eating habits have changed.  This past Memorial Day weekend, my husband and I attended the Taste of Cincinnati (food festival).  Usually, I would have tasted food from every booth.  Instead, I didn't eat anything deep fried (which eliminated half the booths!!).  There was a place that served chocolate covered fresh fruit.  I was able to get the fruit without the chocolate.  There was also a both that had an award winning grilled chicken marsala.  I was able to get the grilled chicken without the sauce!!!!  I did splurge and ate 1-rib (I couldn't resist - I had my husband eat the rest of the serving).

Even at home I've changed my eating habits.  I use children size plates and bowls to eat from.  This way my portions look 'normal' in ths smaller dishes.  I am also trying to limit the amount of food I keep around the house.  That does mean going to the grocery store more often but I don't snack as much either.

My husband has been beyond great during all this.  He is even working on his eating habits.  This week we started working out together!!!

I'm excited about having my first fill.  According to my doctor, that should be when the weight really starts falling off.  Cross your fingers...

1 Week Out and doing Fine...so far!!!
on May 10, 2007 11:23 am
Hey Everybody,

I'm 8 days out from my lapband surgery and so far so good.  I'm still working the 'full liquid diet' and hating it. :-).  I tried to eat some cream of wheat and was full after 3 teaspoons.  I couldn't believe it.  My incisions are itching like crazy!!!!  Hopefully that will go away soon.  Tonight I'm meeting my girlfriends to celebrate someone's birthday.  I plan to bring my own protein drink - how fun!!  Wish me luck!!

My Story

I have been overweight my entire life.  All of my sisters have been very thin.  I was always considered the 'big' little sister.  Like everyone else, I've tried every type of diet you can think of.  And of course, they all failed.

I've been wanting to have this surgery for the last 5 years but everytime something happen.  Either I couldn't take the time off work or my insurance at the time wouldn't cover WLS.

Last year (2006) I decided I would do the lapband surgery.  During my pre-approval exam I discovered I was pregnant so I put off the procedure.  Sadly we lost the baby in the second term, but unfortunately, I continued to gain the weight.  By the end of the year, I was close to 300 lbs.  I looked in the mirror and decided I had to do something.  Liuckily, I had insurance that didn't have a WLS exclusion.  So I decided to get the surgery as originally planned.

I found a really good doctor in my hometown (Dr. Thomas White) and he and his staff made a this a really easy process.  From learning about the procedures and realistic results to helping with insurance approval and scheduling the surgery around my work schedule.

I'm currently 8 days post-op and looking forward to an interesting summer.  I may not be in bikini this summer but I know I will be next year...
