Surgeon Testimonial

Andre Nunn
Dr Nunn was a A+++ surgeon. I had no complications following my surgery and during my 2 week post op, he sat with my husband for sometime answering all my questions. I am so happy that I chose him to do my surgery. Thanks Dr. Nunn!

About me....  I am a 40yr old engaged woman with 3 gorgeous children.  My fiance is a wonderful man that I have been with for almost 5 yrs and we are getting married on 08/08/08 @ 8pm.  Rob picked that date since I forget dates all the time and he figured that I wouldn't be able to forget that ONE!  lol  I have 2 daughters from a previous relationship.  Victoria is 16 and Jessica(Jess) is 13.  Rob and I adopted a son, Blaise and he is 6.  I am a busy Mom that is working full-time and attending Conestoga College part-time for Human Resources.  I am so grateful to have found this site.  I have found it so helpful, inspirational and insiteful.  I hope to provide as much help to others, as I have found.

Me & My Sisterchicks
I am very blessed to have found the most amazing group of girlfriends (5)  and we have dubbed ourselves "The Sisterchicks" after an email circulated between us and well, it just fit.  We get together monthly for a wonderful dinner and night full of laughter and fun.  With the summer months flying by, the last time we were all able to get together was back in June, except for my wedding.  One of the girls hadn't seen me since then (her brother died the night before my wedding).  When I walked in, she was astonished at my weight loss.  They were all so happy for me.  During this time though, I learned that a couple of them were desparately trying to find my phone number the night before my surgery to BEG me not to go through with it.  I know they were worried about me.  I am SO glad they weren't able to find my phone number at that very moment.  I did not need anyone's objection in my plan on WLS and probably would have taken great offense to it.  I know that they only had the highest of intentions.  Of course now, they look at me and how happy I am in my own skin, they fully support and respect my decision.  Being this was the first SisterChick Night Out since my surgery and the night is based around food, most of them and even I was, worried about the awkwardness with me not being able to eat much.  It ended up WONDERFUL!  I ate what I wanted and could and passed on the main course because I was full from our appetizers.  They ate desert and I had some sugar free chocolate ice cream.  All was well!!  Nancy did my measurements and it was exactly 3 months from the last measurements and astonishingly, I have LOST 45 1/2 INCHES!!!!

10 weeks post op

It's so hard to believe that I have already passed my 10 week mark.  I am down 50lbs and feel great.  I am still having a little trouble with certain foods and vomitting occasionally.  I feel so blessed to have come out of this so well and have been losing pretty consistently except for a week of no loss.  I am sure my body is just getting used to the new tummy and losing so much weight so quickly.  I have put an updated pic in my after pics comparing my 4 week post op until now.  I am getting many compliments on my weight loss now.  Alot of people I work with had no idea that I had WLS.  Of course, I am telling them what I have done to lose so quickly.  I have never felt the need to lie about my WLS but, I didn't tell too many people before my surgery because I didn't want anyone else's opinion.  I am loving my RNY!

My wonderful wedding day.
on August 10, 2008 10:47 pm
This past Friday, Rob and I finally got married after 5 years together.  The day started out pretty windy, cool and was supposed to have intermittant showers.  Thankfully as the ceremony began, the sky was clear as a bell with a gorgeous moon rising just above us.  The bagpiper and I walked down to the garden as the pipes echoed over the entire yard.  As I approached Rob, I saw his red, tear-filled eyes.  My surprise bagpiper was more than he could have imagined and I knew then that it truly was a perfect wedding gift for him.  Our ceremony was perfect and went just as we had imagined.  I thank God for such a wonderful day and thank my amazing friends for allowing this day as stress-free as possible.  Maxine, my best friend, made ALL the food for our reception back at our house.  Trudy, my matron of honour, made the veggie and fruit trays.  We were able to come back to our house and just enjoy the festivities.  Everyone had a great time as did we.

The most beautiful video I have watched

I received this link in an email today and it truly brought me to tears.  It reminded me, it's all how we say things to others.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Back home in my own bed! TYG!
on July 13, 2008 1:56 pm

My surgery went as planned on Thursday.  Pretty uneventful.  I don't remember much about Thursday at all actually.  I attempted walking a couple of times in the evening but, was way too nauseous.  The male nurse I had, I think he name is Ian, told me to ease up on the morphine and as soon as I did, I felt much better.  It is so hard to sleep at the hospital when there is always someone coming in to ask you to suck, blow-out, look, etc.  I could hardly wait to get back to the hotel and just rest on Friday night.  We came back home on Sunday.

I have been trying really hard to get all my fluids in.  At this point, it's pretty hard because I am sleeping so much.  After walking for 15mins, I am zonked again.   I did make myself a whey protein shake and it was actually pretty tasty.  I drank that at about noon.  The only thing that feels odd to me, is my stomache feels like it is a rock.  I think is probably feeling tight from the incisions.

I have nothing but wonderful things to say about Barix Clinics.  The staff is amazingly patient, kind and gentle.  Dr. Nunn is a very personal doctor and didn't hesitate to hang out with me while I asked him numerous questions.  I highly recommend them to anyone.  Dr. Nunn also informed me that they do 2 leak tests while in the stomach and one the next day with radiology.  So far, I am clear!!!

I missed my kids like crazy but, I am very happy to report, they did very well here and with friends and family looking in on them.

I think I am going to drag out my scale just to see where I am now.  I know I had gained 6lbs while in the hospital.  They assured me that it was only water weight.

I also want to thank all the forum members that kept me in their thoughts and prayers while I was going through this.  I appreciate it more than they could ever know

Back to bed now.

My Story

My Story..... My story is not very different than anyone else on this site.  I have been overweight for over 17yrs.  I have tried every diet imaginable with no success and having invested a fortune in doing so.  Some diets worked better than others but, I found most of them very humiliating!  The whole "you lost 2lbs this week?"  Clap Clap Clap!  GAG!!!  I hated them so much.  It's no wonder that I always quit and gained more than I lost to begin with!  I never thought that I would follow this route in order to lose weight.  However, my weight is such a personal, painful issue.  When I orginally went to my family doctor for a consult about trying another "weightloss drug", I was in tears before I got my first word out.  I described it like this to him: This is the one and only area in my life that I would do ANYTHING to change.  Absolutely anything.  My doctor is an amazing man and it was him that suggested looking into bariatric surgery.  I went to see Dr. Joffe in Toronto, Ontario.  Once again, I was in tears before either of us speaking a single word to one another.  Thankfully, Rob was with me and did most of the talking and question asking.  It only dawned on me a couple of days ago that during that appointment, they of course weighed me.  Rob was there!!!!  OMG, he now knows what I weigh.  I have NEVER told a soul how much I weigh.  NEVER!  Yet, he still loves me and never mentioned changing or cancelling our wedding!  LOL
I now wait for OHIP to approve my claim and move on to RNY surgery ASAP.
NO, I am not waiting for surgery to be done after my wedding.  I thought that God willing, I will get my surgery done whenever the first appointment available is.  I want to marry Rob and he wants to marry me, whether I am fat or skinny.  He has waited for me to finally say YES for 3yrs and I am not going to make him wait anymore.  I figure for our 1st anniversary, I will get some "boudoire pics" done for him.  I will keep you posted!!
