Surgeon Testimonial

Neal Gorrin, M.D.
I thought Dr. Gorrin was very pleasant and easy to speak with. His office staff are very helpful. Dr. Gorrin's front office lead had bariatric surgery several years ago and has been very helpful as well.

This group definitely emphasizes aftercare. They don't just line us up, do surgery, and forget about us like some surgeons do. There is a structured aftercare program that I will be participating in.

I think surgical competence is the most important but a good bedside manner is also important.

Dr. Gorrin went over every possible complication in detail and explained the surgery in great detail today as well. I am going into this surgery with my eyes wide open.

I was very impressed by Dr. Gorrin's surgical skills. I had my surgery on 11/22 and I am feeling great. He is a very, very caring man, is very professional, and I know in my heart that he saved my life! I would very highly recommend Dr. Gorrin of Oregon Bariatric Center.

05/22/2007 - 6 months postop
on May 25, 2007 7:16 pm
I still cannot believe that it has been six months already.  Boy how time flies when you are having fun ... lol

Anyhoo, I had my 6 month postop visit on Tuesday and I am down 102 pounds and have shrunk an amazing 51 inches .... 12 inches from the hips, 11 inches from the waist, 10 inches from the chest, 6 inches from the bust, 9 inches from the thighs (combined) and 3 inches from the arms & neck.  I combined the thighs and the arms/neck because I did not measure them from the beginning and so the numbers were a little smaller.  I just cannot believe it has only been 6 months,

Surgeon says I am right on track and doing great.  I asked him what his goal was for me and he said he didn't really have one but did say that I've already lost half of my excess weight.  I told him that I'd like to get down to 180 and he thought that sounded reasonable and very do-able.

Only sad note is we think the ulcer is back.  I was in the ER on Monday night into Tuesday morning with severe pain in the epigastric area.  Well by the time I finally see the ER doc the pain is almost gone but he gives me a GI cocktail and that takes care of the rest of the pain.  I am back on the carafate and I think I am going to ask to be switched over to Protonix ... it seems as though that works better and is more widely prescribed for us for the acid suppression.

Other than that, things are going great ... I am rambling, sorry ... just so excited!!!

04/26/2007 --- WOW!!!
on April 26, 2007 10:29 pm

This evening I was going through my closet, sorting through the clothes to see what I had shrunk out of when I found a Travis Tritt baseball-type jersey that I won about 5 years ago.  I got to meet Travis and he signed the jersey for me as well.  It was a size XL and I was never able to wear it, so I gave it to my hubby.  Well as I was going through the closet, I came across this jersey and I thought, yea lets try it on.  It is an XL so it's not gonna fit but maybe in a few more months!!  So, I put it on over the shirt that I already had on and it STILL fit!  The buttons bunch a bit around the boobs but IT FITS!!  Wowsers!!  I wonder if my DH will mind if I take it back from him?    I think probaby not since he doesn't like country music and he never wore it ... it has sat in his side of the closet for the last 5 years.

April 16, 2007 --- I am so proud of myself!!
on April 22, 2007 10:27 pm
I left the Irvine event last night ... arrived at the airport in Santa Ana after checking bag and going thru security at 5:00 pm or so and had about an hour to wait.  I had 2 flights of 1 hour each until I was home but knew that 9:30 was too late to eat dinner and I needed to find some protein so as not to be ill for the flight home, so I head out on my search through the airport.  Of course the first thing I see is McDonalds  and I look and think "no way, that stuff is so unhealthy, full of transfats".  So, I head down the way and keep looking.  Then I see a Starbucks and well no they don't have anything to offer me either, pastries and such.    So I keep walking and all of the sudden I find a sandwich stand.  I ask her to make me a ham & turkey sandwich wrapped in lettuce instead of bread.  So I decided to have that and I got all my protein in for the day. Had I waited until 9:30 or 10 when I got home, I knew I would have not felt well.

Also, I got on the scale this morning and I've lost 2.5 pounds in Irvine !!  Must have been that long walk on the beach trying to find Slapper!!  lol

April 21, 2007 --- WOW came at me out of no where!!
on April 22, 2007 10:23 pm
For the last several weeks, 4 to be exact, I have been stuck gaining and losing the same handful of pounds and was getting frustrated.  Well I hadn't measured in quite a while (and still really haven't).  I had bought a pair of size 24 jeans about 2 months back (I was a tight 32 preop 5 months ago) and I was bummed that I couldn't get them up over my hips.

Well this morning, I thought lets try them again and see how close I am to fitting in them.  OMGoodness .... they fit!!!  Not only could I get them up over my hips but I could also button & zip them up!!  They are the cutest white jeans with glitter jems on the butt pockets.  They are soooo cute!  I am liking clothes more and more every day.  lol

Another Great Week
on March 25, 2007 7:22 pm
Well, I had another great week.  The weight loss was about 5 pounds, I have now lost 83 pounds.  I am really hoping to be down 100# by the Irvine event.  I am really looking forward to that.  Several of us are rooming together and have plans to go to the ocean on Friday afternoon, then karaoke Friday night, and then the convention on Saturday & Sunday.  Saturday night is the 1980s decade party which is going to be a BLAST!!  The 80s is definitely my era.  I graduated HS in 1985 and I am really looking forward to this party.  We are all dressing up in 1980s garb.  I'm sure there will be some Madonnas, Pat Benatars, and some punk rockers with bright spiked hair!!

I'm not posting in public what I am going as but I have won the bid on ebay for some pink converse high tops and I cannot wait to get those.  I have got my wig and pants.  Now I just need a pink button-down blouse.  I'll let you figure out what I am going as.

On another note, we are in the process of buying a home and we are going to be looking this week.  I sure hope we can find just the right one that is in our price range.  That should be quite exciting.

Well that's all for now.  It has been a great week and I will post more next week.
