Surgeon Testimonial

Jim Valentine, M.D.
Ist Impression: Felt good about the doctor and the time he took with me. Office staff: I felt frustrated with the way they were so negative about insurance and that was discouraging. However, once we got the approval, the staff worked quicky to get my surgery date. Now that I am Post-Op, I can give a good rundown on their office.

Dr. Valentine is a caring and humerous person. He has a knack of putting you at ease the moment that he enters. I felt convident in his ability and his tone of voice shows that I am his focus and concern at that moment. He's a wonderful surgeon. However, it is not just the doctor that makes a good practice. His staff, especially his P.A. are the best! Working hand in hand with the doctor, they make you feel that you truly are important. Like Dr. V, they show concern for your well-being, compassion when you're in pain or anxious and an eagerness to be helpful. The P.A.'s are quick to respond to your concerns and the nurses are great too. Here, at this office, you are not just another number but a person! That is the best thing about their office. I would recommend him to anyone.

November 2006: It has been 16 months since surgery. I’m a new person.  Before surgery, I weighed 250lbs. Currently, I weigh 122lbs which my doctor warns is too thin and recommends that I gain at least 20lbs. Whoah!  Okay, what altered universe am I in? Wait, I'm pinching myself...Well, that hurt!  I must over-ride the old alarm system within my head that screams: ALERT! ALERT! CALORIE INVASION! MESSAGE LOOP ACTIVATED: PUT DOWN THE FOOD! STEP AWAY FROM THE DISH! YOU ARE NOT HUNGRY! FOOD IS THE ENEMY AND MUST BE AVOIDED AT ALL COST!  WATCH THOSE CARBS! STAY AWAY FROM ANYTHING THAT TASTE GOOD OR YOU WILL FOREVER BE A FAT COW! ALERT! ALERT!  It is so ingrained into my system that I'm still struggling to burn it off my memory card. The fight to re-record my alert system message continues to be a nasty battle but I stay the course. One day, the old message will finally be erased to be replaced with a message set to go off whenever I've gone too long without a meal: ALERT! ALERT! ENERGY IS SERIOUSLY LOW! REPLENISH CURRENT FOOD SUPPLY IMMEDIATE. FOOD IS OUR FRIEND! EAT! EAT! YOU DESIRE MEATS, CHICKEN, VEGETABLES, AND CHEESE! EAT! EAT! Now how strange is that? I'm to gain weight, eat food? Wow! I never thought that would be in my future! Operation:Weightloss was successful and now I must find balance! That is what it's all about! Balance. So I will work at it each day!
