Surgeon Testimonial

Monte Schwartz, M.D.
I am so happy that I chose Dr. Schwartz as my surgeon. He is confident, knowledgeable and caring and I highly recommend him. I only saw him once before surgery and didn’t have many questions because I’d done so much research on this. My surgery happened within 10 days of seeing him (I was self-pay and was able to get the tests done quickly). He has a structured aftercare program, which I like. I feel better knowing what I’m supposed to do each day. It takes the guess-work out of things for me. His office staff is friendly, caring and efficient. I liked them. They made me feel welcome from the moment I called to make an appointment. And Karen, his nurse coordinator . . . phenomenal. Very caring, friendly and knowledgeable. I love her!

Who am I and why am I here?

I'm a 47 (darn birthdays) year old woman who is sick and tired of my excess weight controlling my life. I’ve been overweight most of my life, but the last 10-15 years or so, my weight has really soared. Like many other people here, I’ve tried practically everything – many diets and programs, acupuncture, hypnosis, support groups, etc. None of them worked for me for long, if at all. I looked into having surgery several years ago. I had all the tests/evals done, and then found out my surgery would not be covered by insurance. At the time, I could not afford to self-pay, but can do so now. I’m looking forward to a whole new life!

Plastic Surgery Pics Posted for Friends
on June 9, 2008 12:32 pm
I've posted before and after pics of my plastic surgery for friends.  If you want to see my pictures, please request to be added and I'll set it up.  I just don't want these pics of me hanging out in cyberspace for anyone to see, but I know it was helpful to see before and afters of other people when I was researching.  I also found it useful to compare mine to others to make sure mine looked like it should.

I'm still healing nicely and only have a few scabs left at 5 weeks out.  I'm really starting to feel like my old self and can even see the muscles below the skin, which excites me.  I still haven't replaced my pants, though the ones I'm wearing are loose and I get some teasing about that from friends.  I want to wait a few more weeks at least to make sure I don't go down in size.

I'm very happy with my plastic surgery and thrilled with the job my surgeon did.

GOOOOOOAAAAALLLLLLLL!
on May 29, 2008 7:18 am
I finally did it.  I reached my surgeon's goal of 134.  Wow!  Now what?  LOL. I'm still healing nicely from the LBL.  Very little pain at this point - mostly itching as things heal.  I have had a few days of feeling swollen.  Last night, I felt swollen and tight, but it wasn't awful, so maybe I'll luck out and not go through the swell hell so many others do.  Ya never know . . . .

Post-LBL Update
on May 26, 2008 9:30 am
Well, I had plastic surgery on May 6th - LBL.  I kept worrying that something would happen to keep me from having surgery, sinus infection, cold, etc.  I don't know why I worried about this so much, but I did.  Nothing happened and the surgery went without a hitch.

The surgery itself only lasted 3.5 hours - less time than normal for these.  I didn't have any hernias and my stomach muscles were already tight, so the doc didn't have to do any repair work . . . woohoo!  That made recovery easier.  I'm not saying recovery was easy, though.  The first week pretty much sucked.  The drains were the worst part.  Once they came out the next week, things started going uphill.  The stitches came out after about 2 weeks and that helps, too. I continue to heal well and have lost 9 pounds since the morning of my surgery.  That puts me 2 pounds from my GBP surgeon's goal of 134!  If I stay at around 136, I'll be happy with that.

I didn't try on regular clothes for about 10 days after surgery and they are loose on me.    I haven't had an excessive amount of swelling, though there certainly has been some.  The body shapers I'm wearing really help.  I have to wear them 24/7 for another month, at least.  I'm getting used to them and may have to wean myself off them later on . . . lol.

I'm thrilled with the results I've seen so far.  The bruising and scabs are almost gone  and I look better and better as time goes by.  I think my surgeon did an excellent job.  I'm at a stage where I'm happy I had this done.

New Life
on February 20, 2008 6:56 pm

I am so excited.  I called a plastic surgeon's office today several people had recommended to me figuring it would take several months for me to get in.  They had a cancellation for this afternoon that I took.  I REALLY liked him and his staff.  I went in thinking I would only be able to afford a Tummy Tuck, but ended up scheduling a LBL for May 6th (I can’t do anything until after tax season).  Since I’m still paying off my gastric bypass loan, I’ll have to wait on the breast lift and arms, but I’m so excited about the body lift!!!!  This guy is a terrific surgeon.  I know several people who have had work done by him and they have been thrilled.  I just feel so blessed :).  I never did lose that last 10 pounds. Maybe this will get it off.

I also discovered skydiving. I went with my sister a few weeks ago and loved it!  I hope to do it again soon.  It's just one of many things I couldn't do before surgery.

I've lost 100 pounds and have a normal BMI.  Wow . . . this feels wonderful!!  I still need to lose 11 pounds to get to my surgeon's goal of a 22 BMI, but I know I'll get there.
