Surgeon Testimonial

Keith Gersin MD, FACS, FASMBS
I met Dr. Gersin right before surgery! (My surgeon was not able to do the surgery that day, but Dr. Gersin could still be there, so I said, "Go ahead!") Dr. Gersin was very nice, and I instantly trusted him. I still think he is the best, and I am really glad it turned out that he could do my surgery. (Lap RNY on 102902.)
Office staff: great! Jessica Toliver has gone out of her way to be helpful and just a gem. Everyone else I have come in contact with is also the nicest.
What did I like least - Not a thing.
What should future patients know - there is no getting around the things you have to do before he will do surgery. That includes the psych eval, diet classes, support group meeting and anything else he thinks is necessary.
Aftercare is great. The diet classes really prepared me to take care of myself at home after surgery, questions were always answered. Support group meetings are very good.
Risks of surgery - went over all that early on.
I wuld rate Dr. Gersin very highly. I don't know how he does everything he does. He is super busy and he is an excellent surgeon and it pleases him to see his patients do well. I really think he feels this surgery helps people and it's not just the $$$$$ he makes doing it. Great surgeon, very good bedside manner.

New Weight Loss Support Group Invitation The Butterfly Losers Support Group would like to officially announce their presence to the weight loss community. We hope to be a source of inspiration and support to individuals who have embarked on a weight loss journey. The group has been newly created with its home base in Cincinnati, Ohio. You are invited to our first group meeting being held on Friday, August 22, 2003 from 7:00-9:00 PM. We will gather in our temporary meeting location at the Fairfax Church of God on 3705 Lonsdale. September meetings have been scheduled for the 12th and 26th in our new central location of Bethesda Oak Hospital in Clifton. The accommodations will be awesome and we are so excited. The group will be governed by an elected group of board members. The election of board members will take place during our August 22nd meeting in place of the originally planned Fashion Show. Our web-site address is www.butterflylosers. org. We hope you will visit our web-site soon to post a message, join in chat, find resources, and to make friends. The site continues to evolve daily and it has been fun to witness each improvement. If you see this announcement on multiple boards or receive it in multiple Emails we apologize for the overlap but we are using resources from several groups and boards and cross-referencing is a cumbersome task. We hope you share in our excitement, find value in the support offered, and comfort in participation with a community of special people.

My Story

Havent' been on here for quite some time. My life has changed so much since surgery and weight loss! I now have a wonderful man in my life and I live in New Zealand with him. Both of my sons have married and I'm even a grandmother!

August 2011

I was fat. Now I'm not. As much.

I had surgery on 102902. Hard to believe it has been 4 years. So much has happened in that four years. I started out a "light weight". I had surgery, stopped losing at 8 months out. Of course, I did all the things I could to restart it, but I stayed the same for four years. Now I've managed to drop 15 lbs in the past couple of months. Another 20 or so and I'll be at my personal goal weight.

My husband and I dissolved our 27 year marriage, and I can honestly say I am happier than I have been in a very long time. Had I not had WLS, I would probably still be stuck in an unhappy marriage, thinking it was the best I could do, since no one else would ever have me!

I gained self esteem and self confidence as I lost weight. That enabled me to take on some adventures I never would have considered when I was morbidly obese. My life is richer and I know more about myself than I could ever imagine. My only regret is that there was no preparation for the emotional and mental changes that come when you morph from the fat caterpillar to the svelte butterfly. (Or the clumsy, fuzzy moth, as the case may be.)

112206 Miracles still happen! Saw my PCP and I'm down 13 pounds from the last time I saw him in September. Maybe it has to do with that "other 186 pounds" I got rid of in October. Less stress in my life! I did realize, at one point, I was eating almost non-stop when my ex-husband was trying to have a "conversation" with me, and eating was probably my unconscious way of not having to talk to him!
