Surgeon Testimonial

Jeffrey Lord, M.D.
Very confident in his skills. His staff are there to support you and assist you through the entire process (gotta love Ruth!). I do not know that there is anything that I like "least" but I will say he is much different in a 1 to 1 scenario - great sense of humor! He is very clear about his expectations of you - you must follow the guidelines and you will win the battle. He is to the point and clear about risks and outcomes of either surgery and he wants you to be informed. I never planned on having surgery until the lap band was introduced. I went to him to discuss and now I am having bypass - something I would never have considered with another surgeon.

08/30/07 - I am now 1 week post-op and would like to add that Dr. Lord and his partner, Dr. Friedman have excellent bedside manners. They were concerned that I was feeling okay and that everything was as I expected. The bariatric ward staff - one word - AWESOME! I work in the medical field and know what to expect and they far exceeded those expectations. Thanks to Paula, Desere, Lisa, etc. for giving me the best care from the heart!

Just OVERWEIGHT
on August 22, 2008 9:43 am
Finally - BMI 29.8.  I am officially out of the OBESE category and am just OVERWEIGHT.

I went for my 1 year check-up and everything is great.  All the labwork came back within guidelines.  Mark (PA) was very pleased with my weight loss and progress.  When I asked what they have listed as my goal weight he looked and very calmly said "100 lbs".  WHAT?  He started laughing at my response.  He said that these were guidelines by the New England Journal of Medicine and they are not realistic.  Personally, I will be happy when I hit target even though I will still be about 8 lbs overweight.  Once I hit 149 - then I will work on a plan to drop another 10-15.

Life is AWESOME.

We were supposed to go to the beach tomorrow for a 1 year follow-up picture but Tropical Storm Fay has other plans.  Hopefully next weekend will work out so I can put updated pics on the site.

7 short months
on March 22, 2008 11:16 am
Well, it has been 7 months today since my surgery.  I can not believe how time has slipped away so fast.

Here I am 101lbs lighter - how awesome is that?  When I start feeling a little frustrated at a stall period I have to give myself a reality check.
* I have lost 100+ pounds in 7 months
* I am under 200 pounds for the first time in 20 years
* I are wearing such cute clothes  and look sassy if I say so myself
* I can chase the granddaughter all over the yard and have fun
* The infamous "crossing the legs and shaking the foot"
* I no longer have a stash of fat clothes cause I am not going there again
* OMG - I have lost 100+ pounds in 7 months - so incredible I had to add it again!
* Have re-kindled an old relationship and the love is more sweet than ever
* I have come back - no longer squashed down by fat/fear/shame
* I am looking forward to the next 47 pound loss - what will I do then?

Excited!

Only 4lbs to go to Onederland and in 5lbs I will have hit 100lbs lost!  INCREDIBLE!  Just think, at the beginning of this month I was struggling with a 3 week plateau that lasted until the the 16th and since then I have lost 7lbs.

Sweet!

6 month check-up
on February 16, 2008 11:56 am
"Just where you are supposed to be."  That Dr. Friedman is so funny!  We had a great conversation, discussed calorie intake (not getting enough), protein intake (I consume 75+ daily), fluids (not always right where I need to be),  what changes to make, etc.  He said that I must be patient - what woman is patient?  Not me.

I will say that I really enjoy my visits with Dr. Friedman.  Have not seen Dr. Lord since he did the surgery.

From the date I started on the journey, I have lost 60% of my excess weight.  Yes, I count those 10.50lbs - they were so hard to lose.

From the date of surgery, I have lost 57% of my excess weight - only 60lbs to go to original goal.  That target is still considered 9lbs overweight so I think I am adjusting my goal weight an additional 10lbs.

I can hardly believe that 6 months ago I was wearing size 30/32 pants, 4x tops and today I fit into 18/20 for both - some are a little loose at that!  WLS is a blessing.

Today is a GREAT day!  Got my Elton John tickets - awesome seats!  Yahooo!

What a day...
on February 7, 2008 7:33 pm
Drove to Mobile to the set where they were taping Extreme Home Makeover.  It was so much fun - even though the man of my dreams (Ty) was in Delaware at the time.  We were able to get some shots of the stars and I am getting them printed and framed for my office at work.  We stayed standing for 6 hours - never in a million years could I have done that 6 months ago, 88 lbs heavier.  Gotta love RNY!
