Surgeon TestimonialWilliam Chapman M.D.Here is my personal experience with my surgeon. If you choose him, your experience may be different. This review is only my personal opinion.
Dr. Chapman is a very skilled surgeon. He is very nice and extremely sensitive to your needs. He is tough, though and he wants you to be sure that you understand his program. He does not really compromise on that front.
Aftercare so far has been great! The staff is responsive and will call as soon as possible (many times within 2 hours) if you have a question, no matter how trivial you may think it is! The best part for me has been no co-pays for 90 days post-op! That saves me loads of money...
If you choose Dr. Chapman, there will be lots of paperwork for you to sign, so you know what you are getting into (as much as you can know before surgery).
So far I would rate him an A+ for surgical competence and an A for bedside manner. He is in and out so fast, you have to have your questions ready! He will stay to answer them, though, no matter how many you may have.
I am very happy with my surgeon choice.

I Am Only 10 Pounds Away... on August 30, 2010 10:36 am
From keeping my health insurance! Last year, there was a mandate for all employees at my job to be at at BMI of 40 or below by July 2011 and at 35 or below by July 2012. I knew that without help I would never make it... Another reason I am so grateful for my RNY! I have lost 74 pounds as of this morning! I cannot believe it!
I still have some more to go... but I am just about half way there and I will lose that 10 pounds WAY before next July! And did I already tell you... I've GROWN a half an inch with this weight loss! And that was confirmed by two different doctors! I guess all that weight was compressing a sista down!
As I sit here eating my salad for lunch (grilled chicken, cherry tomatoes, carrots, onions and dried cranberries), thinking about the last 6 months (when I went for my very first appointment)... I can't help but to be amazed at how different life can become in such a short amount of time...
Well... now that my health has improved so dramatically, I might not have even needed the insurance... NOT!!!
Smooches!

Living Life... on August 28, 2010 4:40 am
Well, two weeks ago was my birthday! I had the best time... seeing friends and family... taking my goddaughter out...hanging out with my bestest of bestest friends! Last week, I went thrift shopping with my support group and found clothes that fit! This week I have a big conference that I am putting on at work, and I am just about ready... not running behind because I am too tired... This is living!
I just can't describe how much easier it is to move though life now. I am exercising 4-5 days a week; eating healthy foods in the correct amounts; sleeping soundly... the list goes on and on...
I know that I tend to see the glass half full, and that lately, my posts have been mostly sunshine and roses... but that is truly how my life feels to me! There have been frustrations (weight loss stalls, still on blood pressure meds, still have to replace my wardrobe), but all in all, this adventure has been a pleasure. I haven't been sick since week 6! Just that alone is worth doing a happy dance!
I've noticed that after a few months out of surgery, some people stop blogging, or posting on the boards as often. Me included. What I have discovered though, is that I am so busy doing me, that I often just don't think about it. I will never stop blogging though, because it helps me with the emotional struggles that contributed to my weight gain in the first place.
Some important things that I think have contributed to the relatively smooth ride are:
1. I followed my doctor's orders regarding food to the letter for at least three months (and I still am about 95% compliant!)
2. I now exercise often (although I didn't push my body to really start until about 10 weeks out)
3. When I'm hurt, angry, lonely or tired, I don't turn to food anymore. Food is for enjoyment, and sustenance; not to reduce pain.
4. I expect to succeed... and so I am!
If I can be reformed... so can anybody! I had so many bad habits that it is a miracle that I am still here! We can do this--together...
P.S. I promise to take pictures this week and post them by next weekend!

Where There's A Will... on August 12, 2010 10:45 am
As I had mentioned in an earlier post, I am in this research study that is looking at exercise after RNY surgery. Last Friday was my start date. I walked 2 miles both Thursday (before the official start date) & Friday. Saturday, I thought I was going to die... Well I couldn't give up... I had committed to 6 months of exercise, 5x/week with a minimum of 120 minutes each week! O Lawd!
This week I set an exercise goal of walking 10 miles (Sunday--Saturday). I am not the outdoor girl, so I use Leslie Sansone's Walk away the pounds (2 miles). Sunday I walked at home. During the work week, I have a group of coworkers who have committed to "eat smart and move more". On any given day, there are at least 4 of us who are up to working out. We commandeer a conference room, set up a laptop and start walking!
I am pleased to report that as of today, I have walked my 10 miles! Not only that, but I have walked every day, no matter the obstacle... let me give you a few examples:
Tuesday, I had a meeting with my boss from 11 AM to noon. Then I had training across town at 1:00. I was barely going to have time to eat, let alone walk! Miraculously, my boss asked if we could shorten our meeting to 30 minutes... Yes! At 11:30, I was out of there... by 11:40, we had changed, set up the computer and started walking... by 12:10 we were done, 12:15, changed, 12:20 got lunch and was at the training across town by 12:55! I just ate in the training!
Wednesday, the conference room was booked at lunch... we all thought we were short that day... but then I asked when was the conference room open... and it was free at 4:00 PM... so we just all took our break at the end of the day and walked then!
I guess what I have learned this week is that when I want to do something, I do it.... I am in charge of me and where I am going!

The Stall is Finally Broken! on August 5, 2010 7:17 pm
It has been three full weeks with no weight loss at all! I really haven't been that concerned about it, but it was starting to get on my nerves. I am faithfully exercising (2 mile walks 5 days a week) and I think I only have 10 articles of clothing that fit properly; everything else is too big. Even the Old Navy shirts I bought last week are now falling off my shoulders!
But this morning, when I stepped on the scale and it went down; I was ecstatic! I have been careful to keep my calories consistent, and some days 100 calories more. So for me, this seems to work... at least it worked this week!
I have lost 68 pounds! I cannot believe it! I have a recheck with my PCP next week and I can't wait to see her! Now that has never happened before!
And the hits keep coming!
