I'm Home
posted on 5/28/08 9:06 pm
So I made it home. I checked into Kaiser Richmond Yesterday at 12:00 p.m. I got taken back at about 12:15, got an I.V. put in and just sat in the back and waited and read a magazine. A little before 2p.m. the anestheologist came back and spoke to me, then Dr. Fisher came and spoke to me. I got taken into the O.R. at exactly 2p.m. I remember the anestheologist talking to me and that was it. The next thing I remember it was about 8:00 p.m. and my family was there. I couldn't even keep my eyes open for one minute, I kept passing out. I got up to walk and felt so sick. I wish someone would have told me how horrible the gas pain was. Now I've heard you have gas but it was worse than I imagined. I felt it all the way in the top of my chest and down to my lower back. The only thing that helped it was rotating the way I layed. Everytime I got up to use the bathroom I lay on a different side. Laying on my back was the worst, it kept all of the gas trapped.

So today I got up very early, actually I never really slept more than an hour kept having to pee. Well I got up and drank a little tea, it didn't sit well with me, I don't think anything with flavor sits well with me except for broth. It's so funny the way the fluid gushes through my "pouch". It makes a little noise and I burp, quite weird.

I saw my surgeon at about 8a.m., he told me everything went great but he found that I had a hernia that he had to repair. Very odd, I never felt any pain related to it, I think it may have came from when I had my C- section last year. Dr. Fisher said I may have some more pain due to the hernia repair.

I saw my nurse and was discharged at 10:45. I went home and just slept. I did get on the scale to see how much water weight I gained. When I went in I weighed 260, 12 pounds below my goal, this morning I weighed 267, so up 7 pounds from surgery. I think walking has paid off because this evening I am down to 263. Walking and peeing does pay off. I am also glad to say that the gas pain is almost gone. Thank God, that was unbearable, I swear the gas pain was worse than my c- section pain.

Anyway I am home just relaxing trying to adjust to my sipping and vitamins.
