Hi. My name is Laura. I am a single mother to 14 year old identical twin girls. They are the absolute joy of my life - when they aren't bringing me grief. Ah..the teenage years! I am sure that I will survive.

I have struggled with my weight my whole life. This has been difficult to maintain. I have had many, many ups and downs over the years.

This surgery came after many hours of reading and research. It also helped me to know someone that had the procedure done. I have support from all over, but you can never have enough. And that is why I came. A place full of people just like me. A place where everyone understands.

This is awesome and I am very happy to be here.

20 Days Post Op
on October 20, 2008 5:53 pm
Hey. An update since I realized that I haven't written anything for quite some time. I will try and get down something of substance as well. First off, I lost 8 pds at my 2 wks post op so that was great news!!

So I did find out last week that my doctor wants me to stay home for 4 weeks so I don't go back to office until October 29th. I am going a bit stir crazy here.

I know that I am supposed to use this time to get used to eating, but I am not on a good schedule. I think that I need to run my days like I would if I were at work. Getting up at that time and try to come up with a better schedule. Right now I go to bed late and sleep in. This is not good for my what my bodies "normal" schedule will be like.

I know I shouldn't be on the scale but I am struggling to see it in the 240s. I feel as though it should be since my calories are low. I will need to make sure and kick up my walking more. I would like to see a good number for when I go see my NUT next week.

Vitamins, vitamins, vitamins......I NEED TO REMEMBER. I am having a very hard time remembering my vitamins. This is driving me crazy. I never took pills on a regular basis before surgery (I know, I was lucky), and I know that I need to create a habit. I did get rid of one pill and opted for B-12 by injection. No problem giving myself a shot every month to not take a another pill.

I am so thankful for this surgery and I want to do my very best that I can do. I just get a bit frustrated at times. I want to gulp down my water and then I remember to only take a sip. I have actually had to spit out mouthfuls of water as to not hurt myself.

Thanks for listening and have a GREAT night.

Alright..it has been one week since surgery. I can hardly believe it. What a ride. The harded thing that I am dealing with now is this drain. I do feel like an alien and I can't wait to get it out of me. This will happen next week. WOOHOO

4 days post - op
on October 4, 2008 3:22 pm

So I had my surgery 4 days ago on Wednesday. I got home yesterday and it was a rough night. I was told that this weekend would be pretty hard. I still feel SOOO bloated and full of gas. I did get a great nap in today. I also showered for the first time since the morning of my surgery. I felt a lot better.
You know, I was told that it would be hard to get in my 60 grams of protein. And  they were right. I am trying not to take too much fluid in at a time and pace myself. 1 ounce every 15 minutes. Crazy.

It is finally happening!!!!

It almost seems like I have been waiting a lifetime for this day. Wednesday October 1st is the day that begins the rest of my life. I go in to have my RNY. I haven't gotten too nervous yet, just ready to get it all done. right now I am feverishly trying to get everything ready for me to go. I have been working a bit extra to try and get as many projects completed. I have come to the determine that I can't do it all, but I will try and do what I can. I am also in school so I need to get this weeks work done before I go in. Especially since the next week begins on Friday which will be the night I come home from the hospital.
Anyway, I am glad to have joined this site and I am sure that I will meet many friends and grow a great support system.
Have pleasant dreams my friends!
Laura
