Surgeon Testimonial

Shawn Garber
Okay, I have switched my surgeon. I met with Dr. Garber today (06/14/07) and he was fantastic. He answered my questions and allowed me the time I needed to make sure we covered everything. He also made it clear that if any questions come up, I can always contact them or email him directly.rnrnThey are organized and everything is laid out for you in an easy to understand manner. I look forward to this journey and the anxiety has dissipated.rnrnDr. Garber is a good surgeon and it is evident that he knows what he is doing. The technique he uses when stapling and sealing the connections was one of my big concerns. He explained it clearly and my mind is at ease. rnrnOh, just bring a novel to read as the wait is long, but well worth it. Also, do not be surprised if you run into someone from this website while you are sitting there. I felt like I was meeting celebrities, right off the pages of obesityhelp.com.

I Have Begun!
posted on 6/4/07 6:09 pm
June 6, 2007, Monday

Over the past few years I have met and/or known about 11 people who have had gastric bypass surgery (2 had the lapband). Everyone that I have asked have told me they are very happy with their decision to have surgery.

I used to think that this surgery was for everyone but me. Well, last week, I realized that I am a fat person who needs help despite my efforts to "get it together." I have found that most people who go for WLS do and have tried year after year after year to make changes to get healthy but for reasons not known to us, can not. Finally we come to the end of our rope.

For me, the end of my rope was on Firday (6/1/07) and I let go and am letting God show me how to receive the help I need. I have exhausted all of my options. I have literally done every diet, had a personal trainer, cut out ice cream... I have made big changes and have actually gained weight. The time has come.

I had been researching this for sometime now, and finally on Friday, during the middle of the work day, I just picked up the phone and I called the doctor who was first on my list and they were able to fit me in for a July appointment. Just like that. After all this time of denying it and making excuses, I was ready.

In the mean time I have purcahsed books, spent hours on the internet and I have begun to gather all of my medical data. I have requested records from my other doctors. I have contacted prior weight loss centers and I am gathering copies of my ongoging attempts to get healthy.

Now I wait for my July appointment and pray that God's hand will remain upon me, fill me with peace and if this is "okay with Him" that he open doors for everything to fall into place. From insurance, appointments, recovery...

Thank you for posting. It has been a great encouragement to me.
