Surgeon Testimonial

Phillip Hornbostel, M.D.
My first impression of Dr. H was that he is a man who is very up front and tells you the truth. He doesn't hold anything back. Which I like alot. he and his staff care alot about their pts. and their well being.

Well.....  Has it been a long time or what?!  Since I last posted I have had my surgery (with no complications)  and there is not much that I cannot eat(except raw vegetables and eggs).   As of today I have lost 67 pounds!!!!!   I am down from size 22 pants to size 12 and other that having the flu for the past three days I am feeling pretty good.  I am starting physical therapy tomorrow for my back.  Seems as the weight that I have lost in the past 3 months has thrown my posture out of wack and I am having muscle spasms.   I am still very happy with my decision to have the rny  and would do it all over again if I had the chance.    My other wow moment is that I have lost a total of 17.5 inches since the week after the surgery.    Life is pretty good and I am loving life (most of the time).  I do work with first graders!!  lol  No, really I do really like the kids that I work with, and I couldn't ask for a better job.

                     Until next time....

Well... it has been a while since I have updated my profile.  On Sept. 21st I finally got the call that I was approved!!!!!!! Since then it has been one fast ride.  I had a thyroid ultrasound on Sept. 5th and It show that there was a nodule on the left side, so then I went on October 4th for a Thyroid uptake and scan and it came back as no hot or cold spots, but it was showing high activity ( iguess that is what you call it). so when I went for my pre op assessment the anesthesiologist said that he wouldn't do my surgery without clearance from and endcrinologist. So Wednesday I went to see Dr. Menon at Menora Medical and he checked me all out and said that I have Hashimoto Disease.  He said that I am fine now, but he wants to see me in 2-3 months to start treatment for it.  So tomorrow is the day!!!!!! I am excited and nervous and scared all at the same time.  Guess I will post more when I get out ot the hospital.

I mailed my appeal packet on Friday the 3rd.  It was certified with return receipt and express mail.  So today I called tricare to find out if they received it,and they told me that it would take about 10 days or so to even get in their system.  Why does it take so long?? Don't they know that I am about to go crazy here?  They don't care, I just wish they will hurry up with a ruling.

On another note... Chloe is having potty issues.  She has been potty trained for over a year and all of a sudden she has started to have accidents (not at night). It gets better, she has even been cleaning up after herself and not telling me about the accidents.  So now not only is she dealing with the Legg perthes disease, she is going next Tuesday to have an ultrasound of her bladder and kidneys.  I went through the ordeal of trying to get her to pee in a cup.  You have got to be kidding me!!!!  I had to threaten her with no lunch so she would do it.  I don't blame her she is only 3.  The doctor also wants her to see her therapist to see if there is something else going on with her.  I just don't know what to do,  I want her to be ok and have a normal childhood & I just don't know if that is going to happen.

Well, it has been a while since I have posted on here.  Alot has happened.  My youngest daughter,Chloe, was diagnosed the end of May with Legg, Calve Perthes Disease. I was just devistated. (I had the same disease as a child) I guess you might want to know what this is.  It is when the blood supply is cut off to the bone(reasons unknown) and that part of the bone dies. It generally happens to the ball part of the hip joint.  It can cause severe pain, the hip to come out of socket, and arthritis.  Treatments for this is either braces on her legs (to keep the bones still so it can regrow), or surgery and casts for weeks, sometimes months.  The dr at Childrens Mercy said that right now she has the best prognosis, but time will only tell if it is getting better or worse.  We go back in September to have more xrays to compare to the ones we had back last month.  Then we will know where to go to from here.  It just really frustrates me because  this disease is found mainly in males and it is now hereiditary. (so they say)
I went back to see Dena last Wednesday and she reweighed me and I was 213.6 pounds.  Which means that I meet tricares requirements now and she is resubmiting the weight and my records from Shriners Hospital for my hip as new information and see if they take it.  If they won't take it then we will write an appeal letter and resubmit it again.  It is the waiting game again.  I just hope we have a better outcome this time. I don't think I can take much more of this.  I gotta go I am packing for a trip to Arkansas for the weekend. Home to see family and possibly bring my Aunt back with us.

Well.... I got my denial letter from tricare today.  So much for saying that I haven't gotten my hopes up.  I feel crushed.  Why is it that insurance wants you to be severly ill before they will try to help you get better?  You would think they would want to keep people from getting that way.  I mean I was only a few pounds from the 100 pounds overweight mark.  with my other problems and a bmi of 43 you would think that that would be enough.   of course nothing can be easy with insurance and the military.   I am waiting for a call frome my pcm tomorrow to find out what I need to do for my appeal.  Guess we will have to wait and see.
