Surgeon Testimonial

John Ryland Scott M.D., F.A.C.S.
You can tell Dr. Scott really loves what he does. He is very caring and sensitive, but he has plans that he wants you to follow to have success.rnThe office staff are great always super nice and helpful.rnYou might have to wait for your appointment, but it is well worth it because he will take up the time with you that you need.rnThere is a monthly support group meeting the first Monday of each month and he requires you to attend atleast 5 meetings in a year.rnHe would be rated a 10 out of 10. He put everyone at ease and was always very honest.rnHis surgical compentence and his bedside manner are both great.rnThe only negative would be the office wait for your appointment, but he will not rush you through, he takes the time to answer all of your questions and explain everything.

Six Month Check-up
on February 4, 2010 5:02 pm
Well, it has been a great six months.  All my labs were great.  I have lost a total of 70.5 pounds, 56 of those since surgery.  My CPAP has been turned down from a 12 to a 6 and even though I love it may be put to rest in the next six months.  I have not taken any diabetes medicine since the day before my surgery.
I am still taking my cholesterol medicine, but it is the lowest it has ever been even with medication.  Just several of the benefits from the surgery.
I feel better than I have felt in years.  More energy than I ever thought I could have again.
I still have problems eating chicken if it is too dry.  I still have trouble if I forget and eat too fast.
I take my vitamins as required, get all of my protein and get my fluids in.   I have lost some hair, but not a lot.
It has been a great journey and I would do this again in a heartbeat!!

Three-Month Check-up
on November 12, 2009 5:01 pm
I had my 3 month check up today.  Since surgery I have lost 40.7 pounds.  The surgeon and nutritionists said I was doing great.
I had some labs done at the end of September and my cholesterol was 149.  I was still taking this medicine.  I decided to stop taking this and see what happened since I knew I was going to have more labs in November.  My cholesterol was back up to 215 so I have to start back taking the Lovastatin.  I was sure hoping to not have any prescriptions, but he said sometimes this is genetic and since both my parents have to take medicine for this it might be something I have to continue.
My A1c was 5.8.   I have not taken any diabetes medicine since surgery.
I do need to try and increase my exercise.
This has been one of the best things I have ever done for myself.

One Month Check-up
on September 3, 2009 6:24 pm
I had my one month check-up today.  It went great.  The doctor said everything look good.  He told me I could start soft foods and do not have to puree my food anymore.
I can add weight training back to my work out.
Best of all, I can now pick up both my granddaughters!!  That is what I've been waiting on and missed the most.
The surgery went so much better than I ever anticipated.  No problems at all.
I have lost a total of 18.7 since the surgery and a total of 33.2 since last year.
This has been one of the best things I have ever done for myself.  It is hard work to keep up with the food and do all of the planning, but it is so worth it.

The Big Day
on August 2, 2009 3:13 pm
Well tomorrow is the big day!  I'm so nervous and so excited.  We have to be at the hospital at 9am and surgery is scheduled for 10.  Looking forward for this change in my life.  The two week liquids went pretty good.  Today has been the hardest day because it is clear liquids only.  More later.....

My Story

I am 54 and have been overweight most of my life.  I was very active in sports at school.  After I married and had two children, I stopped being as active as I had in the past.  Even though I was overweight earlier, I was active which helped me not get as overweight.  Once I stopped being active, the weight started piling on.  I have tried every diet, weight loss scheme that there is.  I lost alot the first time on Weight Watchers and again on NutriSystem but both were years ago and I gained it all back plus some.  Being diagnosed with Diabetes last year was a real eye opener for me.  My son and his wife had a baby girl 2/18/09.  My daughter and her husband had a baby girl 2/25/09.  It is time for me to get healthy and live my life.  I love being a grandma.  It is the best!!!  I am hoping to have RNY surgery the first part of August 2009.  I finally have all the support from my DH and the rest of my family.
