At the start of my weight loss journey I am a 54 year old black female, married with five adult children that has been overweight all her life.

I love reading, traveling. sewing, bowling and swimming.  We moved to Kentucky, my husband's home town, in 1982 and  I am still adjusting to the smalltown lifestyle.

My most earnest desire is to experience someone saying truthfully, just once, I think you have lost enough weight.

10/31/2008 - ONEDERLAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have wished and worked for a long time to reach this point.  Many people wish die and go to heaven.  Never had that wish.  I love life and don't want to die.
However I have wished for a long time to live to get to Onederland.  Today I've made it!!!  Now to my next wish or maybe the word goal is a better choice because today my wish became a reality.
I am thankful to Everyone because without you all this day would not be possible.

"Trick" and "Treat"
on October 28, 2008 1:29 am

Yesterday, 10/27/08 I woke up feeling good and planning my day when I decided that if possible I would get a fill.  I called and was able to go in.  Everything went well.  The continued weight loss is obvious and I am looking well.

Since all my life I have been wanting and trying to lose weight, but constantly treating myself to unhealthy eating habits, unbeknown to me I have been participating in "Trick and Treat".

A couple of weeks ago my weight being at a stand still, I ate candy, red hots, coconut and chocolate, cookies to my delight, all my so called favorites.

This was the trick because some how those treats were supposed to help me break the stand still in weight.  Well it did.  I gained.

I am hereby renouncing this pagan practice and vow no more to going back to these wicked ways.  The practice of "Trick and Treat" is banded.
Today I am having a great day.   Z

The Tenth Month
on September 19, 2008 3:35 pm
Today, September 19th, I hugged my gynecologist.  This is the man that wrote my recommendation to BC/BS for lapband surgery. He was very much impressed with my accomplishments.  He complimented me on how well I look.  I asked him about PS and he is willing to write them when my weight loss is complete.  He is wonderful person. I also saw my sleep apnea doctor and he felt 90% sure I no longer needed the machine so I am not using it and will see him again in 6 months.
You can call me Alice because my next goal is to get into Onederland.  Hopefully by the end of this month.

9 months on the 16th
on August 7, 2008 2:43 pm

8/7/2008 - Got a fill today.  Now I have 7cc in a 10cc band.  I am down to 211.6.  Just a little while longer and I will be in Onederland.  Yeah for me!!!!
My body is beginning to shape up but I know I need to kick up my exercising.  I plan to work, work, work on my abs.  My arms seem to be doing well.  People tell me I am looking younger.  I feel good and for the first time in my life I weigh less than my husband.  Needless to say, today is a good day.

Arms Update
on July 30, 2008 8:07 am
On July 29th went in for my post-op checkup after liposuction on my arms.  The doctor says I'm am doing fine.  My arms measured 18 1/2 inches before surgery and  are 14 1/2 inches now in their still swollen state.
It may not seem like much  but I immediately noticed the difference.  I look forward to seeing the finished product.  If I am never again able to afford ps I am glad I chose my arms.  Oddly enough I would chose them over my thighs and abdomen.  At 54, soon to be 55, married w/18 grandchildren, I have no intentions of exposing an excessive amount of thigh or abdomen.  If any of the above changes I will deal with it when the time comes.

My Story

My family has a history of obesity, hypertension and diabetes.  I have been fortunate enough to not have any medical conditions requiring medication and plan to keep it that way
Over the years their is no diet and/or exercise plan I have not tried.  They were all successful just not long lasting.  In the past  I would lose about 30 pounds and get satisfied.  I have read and studied all types of weight loss surgery for a good while and decided that I wanted lapband but was afraid.
This past year  a family moved into the congregation and I overheard the husband talking about the lapband surgery he had.  We talked and he helped me with my fear (I wanted a doctor that could operate without the use of blood products).  I also went on line and checked out the doctors and the hospital.  The doctors and hospital were the right choice for me.
Besides improving my looks and getting out of plus sized clothes I've always wanted my husband to be able to pick me up and carry me.  I can now see the light at the end of the tunnel that it is not out of my reach.
