Surgeon Testimonial

Jose Ortega, M.D.
I had a good first impression of him and that did not change. His office staff was knowlegable and competant. Dr. Ortega took his time to explain everything complete with diagrams. I never felt rushed. This of course sometimes resulted in longer wait times in the waiting room. I don't mind waiting if I know I will be given the time I need when its my turn.rnDr. Ortega's aftercare has been very good. I saw him a week or so after surgery then a month later for a couple of months then two months later. At this point I do not need to see him every two months but I can if I want to. I choose to see him every two months. I assume this will end at my one year anniversay. He also encourages me to come in anytime just to weigh in but since my scale is very close to his I weigh at home. This is not the only surgery he performs and if I needed anyother general surgery I would not hesitate to use him. Although both surgical competence and bedside manner are important( Dr. Ortega has both) surgical competence is definetly more important. My only complaint about my experience is the support group co-ordinator. The support group meets on a church night so I can't attend. I tried to set up a support buddy I could talk to. My phone calls were never returned. I did get through to her once and she left messages with a couple of people who she thought would be willing to be a buddy. She would not give me their numbers. She promised to follow up in case they did not call me but she never did. I finally just gave up.

My Story

My story is quite common.  I'm sure it will be familiar to nearly everyone here.  Every time I think I have lost weight I find that I just misplaced it.  When I find it again it brings a few extra pounds back with it.  After trying every diet plan known to man without long term results I decided to do something.  RNY was the something.  Had my surgery 9-19-06.  Have lost 83 pounds and hope to lose a total of 100 by my year anniversary.  After that maybe 20 or 30 more depending on how I look in sagging skin.  I am nearly 60 and not very elastic any more.

I live Northeast of Houston, Texas.  I have lived here twice before.  I have lived in many places in my adult lifetime.  Oil companies have been known to move you a lot.  I wanted to go back to school and finish my degree.  The joke in my house was "if you don't like where you are living, send Linda to school, you are sure to get transferred.  After 20 years and many moves I got my degree in Elementary Education in Denver in 1987.

I am originally from South Louisiana.  Grew up in a small town, Rayne, near Lafayette.  It was a small CajunFrench, Catholic community.  Love the culture....Love the food!!!  New Orleans has good haute cuisine but you can't beat the food inAcadiana.

I married and had two children.  When in Colorado I divorced my husband and return to Louisiana.  A year or so later I remarried and have been married to John for 18 years come August 8.

My daughter Staci is married to Mike and has two sons, Charlie 2 years old and Jack 2 months old.  They are of course the best and cutest and all the other descriptors known to grandparents.  They live in Dallas.

My son Matthew is married to Keely they have no children and live in Atlanta.

My sister Carolyn lives in Atlanta.  My mother Viola lives with her.  We lost our father to alzheimers a few years ago.

I have a brother still living in Rayne and my youngest brother died at age 48 a year before my father.

I have several neices and nephews, grandneices and grandnephews

I love to read, especially mysteries.  I love to sail but not in the heat of a Houston summer.  Spring and fall for me.
I love to sing and am a memberf of the Kingwood Chorale and my church choir.  The Kingwood Chorale was honored by being invited to sing at Carnigie Hall this past March and it was unbelievable.  Never thought I like New York City but If I won the lottery (a really big one)  the first thing I''d do is buy a Manhattan apartment.  Probably would not live there year round but I'd be there a lot.

My goals after reaching goal.  Visit the Galopigus Islands and learn to ride a horse.
