Surgeon TestimonialAndrew Wright, M.D.Dr. Wright was very informative upon first meeting him. He went over the risks and benefits of the surgery vs. living with obesity quite effectively. Both before and after care are addressed and are a large part of the bariatric program at UWMC. Dr. Wright is a very skilled surgeon, but if you want someone who has a very warm bedside manner, you might want to find a different surgeon. Overall, I am very happy with his work and would recommend friends and family to him.

20 months post op and 12 weeks pregnant with baby... on March 11, 2012 9:16 pm
I cannot believe it is already March and I am 20 months into this amazing journey! I am now 170 pounds and a size 10, although I will admit they are getting a bit snug with me being three months along. I am due Sept 26 with sweet baby number 1 and the hubby and I couldn't be more thrilled! All of my labs are wonderful and baby seems to be doing very well. I am so very humbled and thankful for this amazing opportunity to both get healthy, and to have a baby. Two years ago, I was not sure this would ever happen. I am healthy, happy, and very excited for the final 6 months of my pregnancy!

October already?! 15 months post op on October 5, 2011 12:20 pm
I cannot believe it is already October, and even more that I haven't written in a couple of months. I have just been too busy living! ;-) I love life right now. Love wearing a size 10 jeans and L top, love being in the 100's, and love feeling like I have energy to live life. I cannot believe I have lost over 145 pounds in 15 months...it is incredible. I lost another person!
I am working full time now between nannying and substitute teaching, and there is no way I could have done this last year. I miss having my own classroom, but love getting to experience all grade levels. Although, I must admit, it is a little weird getting asked for my phone number by seniors!
I am excited to go into the holiday season actually feeling "normal" and sometimes even pretty! I am excited to get my holiday dress! I am a little nervous about being tempted, but I know that I am satisfied with way less, and that feeling healthy and being healthy are more important than any cookie!
I have slacked on my exercise a bit though b/c I am working so much, but I really need to pick it up again as weight loss has slowed way down. I still want to lose another 20 pounds or so. Anyway, that is what is new in the life of Linds. RNY is still the best decision I have ever made!

Feeling good in August! on August 7, 2011 2:05 pm
Ahhh...August already?! I cannot believe I am just a little over 12 months out from RNY. I went to my grandma's 80th birthday bash yesterday and really enjoyed seeing extended family and friends that I haven't seen in awhile. Everyone was so encouraging, and I even got asked if I was "pregnant" because I "glowed!" No...definetly not pregnant, just VERY happy with my life in general. I love my RNY and am so glad for this decision. I am so thankful to have my life back, and to enjoy it. I never realized how unhappy I truly was until now. I feel better about my body, but I also am soooo much healthier. This has been a process, and will always be. I still want to lose another 30 pounds or so, but I am taking it one day at a time. I am just so thankful to feel more "normal." Feeling happy and blessed!

The end of July already?! I better move it! on July 21, 2011 2:40 pm
So on July 30, I will be exactly one year out from surgery. I really wanted to get down to 180 pounds by this time, but since I started at 330 pounds and am down to the 190's I still think I am doing pretty well. Still, I am going to work my buns off for the next 1.5 weeks to try and make it happen. My life has changed so much in one year it is really amazing to think about. Not only do I look better, but I actually feel 29 and not 60. This has been so much work, and I know it is a lifetime committment, but I am so blessed by my RNY, family, friends, and friends on Obesity Health. All of you have truly been a motivating force for me, and there are not words to describe how very thankful and appreciative I am. I hope that as I continue on in this process that I can help someone the way that you all have helped and encouraged me. Thank you.

Feeling good. on July 8, 2011 1:25 pm
I am officially 11 months out as of June 30, and I am feeling really good. I am getting way more attention than before, from both guys and gals. I feel like I am treated like a human being again, and not just a "fat person." I do like the attention, but it can be a bit overwhelming for me too. I love shopping for new clothes and am so excited to be able to shop anywhere now, and not just at Lane Bryant, Target, or other shops that have big girl clothes.
I am exercising every day and feel very accomplished after each workout. To think that less than a year ago just doing daily life was hard, and now I embrace every opportunity that comes along.
I love my RNY for everything that it has given back to me.

My Story
Pre RNY- I am 28 years old, I am a substitute teacher (I was laid off when the economy got bad), am a Type 1 diabetic on an insulin pump, and live in WA State. I am scheduled to have a RNY on July 30, 2010 and am extremely excited and nervous all at the same time! I have thought long and hard about having this surgery, and finally decided that even though I am a self pay, and it is very expensive, my life is worth it. My hopes are that this surgery will help my diabetes (as I am very insulin resistant). I am looking forward to a whole new life where I can experience things that I never would have before because I let my weight stop me.
8 months post RNY- I went from 333 pounds and a size 26/28 pant and 3x top, to 217 pounds, and a size 12 pant, and XL or L top. I am off all medications except insulin, and my blood pressure and all other co-morbidities are gone (except diabetes). I went from using an insulin pump (350 units daily) to not having a pump, and only injecting 5-15 units daily. I have so much more energy, and am a happier person overall...sister, daughter, teacher, and friend. RNY was hands down one of the best decisions I have ever made, and I am so very thankful for the opportunity to get healthy. I still need to lose 50 pounds to get to my goal weight of 160, but I am slowly getting there. So, here is a post op RNY picture of what is going on and what I still hope to accomplish!
10 months post RNY-Down to 202 pounds and a size 12 but almost in a 10! Seriously contemplating a career change and going into law enforcement. So happy with this decision. I take every day one step at a time and try to make healthy choices 95% of the time. Still want to lose another 40 to get down to 160 pounds.
