Nutritionist Called
on February 28, 2007 9:40 am
The nutritionist called this morning to set up my required appt. I go to see her Monday at 10:30am at Sycamore Hospital in Miamisburg. Tuesday, I have my psych and excercise eval and then I guess I just wait.

I'm still waiting on my PCP to get my permission letter and 5yr history finished. When he's done with that, I'll take it to Dr. Anderson and she'll submit my stuff to UHC and then we wait for an approval.

First Consultation - Friday Feb. 23, 2007
on February 26, 2007 11:24 am
I had my meeting today with the Bariatric Consultant, Susie. I think she expected someone who didn't know a whole lot about what they were doing. I finished her sentences for her most of the time, told her I was already part of a support group online, etc.. She was really impressed. She was asking me all about y'all here on the board and how I found you (thanks, val). She gave me a buttload of paperwork to fill out, some of it extramely detailed. I had to guess on my birth weight cuz I couldn't reach my mom on her cell phone. Susie sat me in the waiting room to finish up the paperwork.

While I was out there, another patient came in. His name was Michael and he was really really friendly and totally psyched about the surgery. He was a few steps ahead of me and she was going to give him a tour of the facility. I was still in the waiting room when they went so they stopped and invited me along. One of the nurses showed us a room and told us about the accomodations. I took notice of the fact that the face on her RN badge beared no resemblance to the woman giving the demonstration. The face on the badge was really obese. As we were walking out, I said to Susie "was she a patient?"  Susie gave me this weird look and said "yeah, she was once, why?" I said, "she still wears her old badge."  :)

When I got back to Middletown, I took one of the papers they gave me to my PCP and highlighted what they needed to do re: history and the letter of consent. They won't fax anything, so I have to go back when they've got everything ready and hand deliver it to Dr. A's office. Fun. After that I came home and made my Psych and Exercise appointments for Tues., March 6th. The nutritionist is supposed to call me and set up an appt.  After I do those things and my paperwork is delivered, they'll submit my insurance paperwork. Susie says it's been taking United Healthcare up to 4wks lately to give approvals. So, maybe I'll make April after all or early May. As long as I can make a road trip to Myrtle Beach in late July, it's all good.

Starting Off....
on February 3, 2007 2:48 am
OK... so I finally decided to get my crap together and look seriously into weight loss surgery. I was considering Lap Band, but after talking to ValGroce, I'm now leaning towards DS. Well, I'm well past leaning now and have pretty much decided it's the best choice for me.

I went to my physician today and discussed DS and we went over a lot of my history and things I've tried and failed at and how my weight is adversely affecting my health. He told me he'd back me up 100% and gave me the name of a sugeon in Kettering to check out. I'll be giving them a call first thing Monday to get the ball rolling.

At my visit today, I weighed in at 278. I've tended to stay between that and about 285 for the past year.

That's it for now....
