Time For an Update
on September 6, 2009 10:26 pm
It's been a while since I've posted anything.

It's been 2yrs and 4mo since my surgery. I lost down to 139.5lbs and stayed there for a few months before getting my bounceback. I now have been sitting between 155 and 158 for the past few months. I wear anywhere from a size 4 to size 10 jeans/dockers depending on the brand.

I'm very happy with my quality of life and I literally can eat anything that I have the urge to eat. I don't like some of the things I used to, though. I don't care for pizza or spaghetti much anymore or any kind of pasta really. I tend to want meat for the most part. I love steak and chicken and they are both a huge part of my diet.

I don't have any bowel or gas issues and really haven't had any since I was about a year out. I took Flagyl for some bad gas bloating back then and it cleared right up and things have been normal ever since. My routine is once in the morning, maybe once at work depending on what I eat while I'm there, and maybe once before bed. I'd say I average twice a day.

That's about it for me for now. My weight is pretty stable and has been for a while, so I doubt I'll be updating this blog much anymore. If you're a pre-op reading this, good luck and make sure you do a good amount of research.

Labs - What They Test For When They Do Them
on December 22, 2008 6:06 am
I recently went for my yearly labs. While I was there, I asked for a copy of the list of things that the surgeon asks the lab to test for. In case anyone needs it or wants to see what all they look at to see if we're healthy, here it is verbatem:

Parathyroid (intact)
Comprehensive metabolic panel
CBC with Diff
Lipid panel
Zinc Level
Vitamin D 25 hydroxy
B12
Folate
Transferrin
Ferritin
Thyroid Panel (T4, T3, total, TSH)
Vitamin K

19 Month Pics
on December 22, 2008 5:57 am
It's been a while since I've updated this. I'm now 19mo post-op and have been holding steady at between 140 and 145 for the past few months. I am really happy with the post-op lifestyle as I'm not on any type of diet. I don't "watch" anything like carbs, sugar, fat, etc..If I want something in particular, I eat it. I feel like just an everyday normal person. Vitamins and supplements are second nature now, no big deal there. Getting the water in, no big deal either. Most of what I crave to eat is protein based, so that's not hard either. I'm a major carnivore now and I love me a good serving of bbq chicken or a really great steak.

Here are my pics:

I don't know if I'll be updating much more with pics and weight loss since I'm where I need to be and look pretty much how I expect I'll look for the rest of my life, besides aging of course. Take Care!

One Year Surgiversary!!
on May 9, 2008 8:14 pm
I made this post on May 7, one year after my surgery...

Today is my one-year surgiversary!!
In the last year, I've gone from 281 lbs to 153, from a size 24 to a size 8.  I've lost 96% of my excess body weight and am currently 3lbs away from my goal. Actually, right now I fluctuate between 153 and 157, which is perfectly fine by me. I think I look my best right around 160.

I haven't had a lot of time to myself today (or yesterday, or the day before, etc..) so I haven't had a chance to take my 1yr photos. I'll try to do that either tomorrow or sometime this weekend.

This has been one wild ride. I can't believe the amount of energy that I have now. I can run, I want to spend time outside playing with the kids, I even went on the playground and down the slide with them last week. I ride my bike when I get a chance. I do more around the house now, too, especially laundry because it doesn't make me short of breath to climb the stairs anymore. This weekend I'm going to Kings Island for the first time in over 10yrs with my boy, Gary (21). It will be the first time ever in my life that I'll be able to fit comfortably into the seats of the rides. My earliest memory of going to Kings Island was as a fat pre-teen who had to wedge her ass into a roller-coaster seat. I cannot begin to tell you how psyched I am about this weekend. I pulled up a map of the park and descriptions of all the rides and proceeded to text Gary about everything I want to ride. He probably thinks I'm nuts by now.

I'm also going this Saturday to get my temps for my motorcycle license, something I'd have never done as a fat person. I always figured I'd look stupid on a bike and people would make fun of the fat chick on the motorcycle. I'm not going to buy a motorcycle, but rather a motor-scooter here in the next few weeks, but you have to have a cycle license to ride those, too.

This surgery has really opened up a lot of doors for me. And it's also allowed me to meet some really terrific people...all of you guys. And especially my group of Dayton/Cincy peeps. Y'all rock!

Anyway, that's it for me... 1yr later!
