Alvaro Valencia, MD
Dr. Alvaro Valencia in Bogota, Colombia was my surgeon. The entire experience was very pleasant. Dr. Valencia and his staff at Affordable Bariatrics was very competent and professiona. I underwent numerous pre op tests and was eveluated by five specialty doctors for clearence in their areas of concentration. Dr. Valencia explained the risks and the actual procedure in great detail. I thought that I had researched everything before hand, but learned more from him. Dr. Valencia and Dr. Silva both had wonderful bedside manner and made me feel at ease from the beginning. The only negative was that the hospital was on the warm side due to there being no air conditioners because of the mild climate. Dr. Silva actually brought me a fan from his office to use though. I do not regret choosing Affordable Bariatrics one bit. I must keep in contact with Dr. Valencia on a monthly basis via email or phone and follow up with a bariatric doctor as well. I have chosen Dr. Henderson in Brunswick, GA to provide follow up, but have not seen him as of yet.

Eating was definately a source of comfort for me. It didn't matter what the situation was, I turned to food. I am a very new post op patient, only 2 months out, but I realize just how often I did use food for comfort. I often find myself wanting to eat when stressed now and the only reason I don't is because I know that I can't. The weight was just a side effect of the behavior that I exhibited for so many years.
