Surgeon TestimonialRonald B. Spier M.D.I was incredibly impressed by Spier and his staff. They are kind, patient and full of knowledge. Spier seemed impressed that I had read his website, been on this and other websites and was able to list my resources, references and that I was prepared to ask questions after he let me know how his procedure and follow up would proceed if I chose him as a surgeon to perform my RNY.
What I appreciate about his staff are the small things they provide to me, most importantly they NEVER act like I'm bothering them w/silly or unneccessary questions. They always seem so grateful that I have called and made them aware of something that they will happily follow-up for me. They remember that this is MY first time in this situation, even though it is a daily routing for them! The sweetest thing happened about 10 days after my initial consult w/Spier. I commented to Jan, the woman that sets up appointments for the nut and for my psych eval, that I really liked her ring and inquired what jeweler had designed it for her. She wasn't able to find the website right then, but said she would shoot me the web address when she did find it. Well the next weekend, I went to my mailbox, and there was a catologue from the jeweler! Jan had not only found the website, but had added my name and address to the jewelers mailing list! One has to think, "If this is how they treat me for something so trivial as jewelry, aren't they going to be simply amazing when it comes to my health and well-being!" I am truly blessed to have found these people.

My name is Anita Loggins, I'm 35 years old and I live in Columbus, Ohio. I'm single, never married and have no kids. I was born in Nebraska, grew up in Minnesota, and Chicago, and have lived in Mississippi and California. I had my surgery (Open RNY) on August 21, 2006 in Springfield, Ohio at Community Hospital and it was performed by Dr. Ronald Spier. My starting weight as of surgery was 333.5 lbs, but I suspect that my highest weight was up around 370 lbs back in 2000 and 2001. I'm 5'8" and my ideal weight is 145 lbs. My doctor and I have settled on a goal of 160 lbs. I would like to see how things settle and feel and look once I get to 200lbs and go from there. Please, as you read about me, remember and take into account, that this is my story. Things are the way I experienced them due to my situations and particulars that pertain to me. What I experienced were my experiences for me! I feel obligated to say this, because of the fact that I'm posting my story for public viewing, by doing that, comes responsibility, and I would hate for someone to read what I have written and take it as gospel for any person who has had WLS. I feel the need to educate and inform as I go along and rave about how things have been for me!
We didn't win.. but we Waisted Away! on April 28, 2008 11:50 am
well my team didn't win, but we lost a total of 65 pounds for all of us within 8 weeks of the challenge! I'm so proud of my team! i lost a total of 26 pounds! I'm only 14 pounds from my surgeons goal! That feels really great! My husband finally told me yesterday that I was getting SCRAWNY!! Can U believe that! He's only known me since last summer. So when he met me, I weighed about 205-215 pounds. I was easily fitting into 16's at the time. now I'm down to 10's and 12's and medium tops. My team really did well, and even though we weren't winners according to the totals between other teams, we all feel really successful. So successful, in fact, that we'vev continued our weight loss program as a group and we're gonna keep it up. We all have goal this coming summer to try and lose weight for. Well, catch up with y'all in a few pounds!

Waist Away @ work... on March 24, 2008 5:51 am
so.. here's the deal... Since we started our weightl loss challenge at work on the 26th of february, I've lost a total of 19 pounds. My team is all women... 6 of us, and we are winnning the challenge at a loss of 42.5 pounds/3.188% of our beginning weight has been lost! The next closest team is only at 2.848% @ 37 lbs lost, and then 2.823% @ 42.5 lbs lost. WE'RE DOING AWESOME - considering we have all chicks on our team. My goal is to reach my goal set by my surgeon and then lose an aditional 10 pounds, that would make my total contest weight loss, 50 pounds/25% of my contest start weight. I really want this! I did get slightly off track over Easter weekend.. My Mother-in-law make chocolate covered cherries from scratch! Darn her! But I feel like I have another 4 weeks to kick it in the tail and reach my goal... thank goodness it's warming up, I hate to exercise indoors. Well.. wish me luck, and good luck to you!

Working towards my goal... slowly... on March 3, 2008 1:09 pm
ok... so here's what's going on in my world.
Last week, Tuesday, we started Waist Away at Work. I'm the captain of a team of 5 women + me. My goal was to lose 25 pounds over the 8 week competition. (that's not a lot considering I had put about 13 pounds on over the past 3-4 weeks. not eating right, not enough fluids, no vitamins...you know how bad it gets sometimes!)
anyway... I started the Plateau Buster's diet on Tuesday, I could immediately tell the next day, that my body was so happy to have the right foods, enough water, and exercise. By Thursday I had lost 3 pounds, I weighed myyself today... I LOST 13 POUNDS IN 7 Days! granted, I started my monthly happy time today, so we gotta give credit to water weight. but 13 pounds! WOO-HOO!! I'm so excited... I've changed my goal, to actually reach my GOAL. I mean, the real goal set by my Doctor and I almost 18 months ago. If I can get these last 27 pounds off, I will be where my surgeon wanted me to be. WOW...that's crazy to me. I'm not sure what I'll do. Well, besides celebrate! Anyway... wish me luck and take care, don't give up, it's all worth it!

nita

Oh yeah, and in case you didn't know. I got married 3 weeks ago. I'm very happy and love the married life, and my husband, he's so stinking handsome! Anyway, life is good and so am I.

New Goals - Plateau Busting Diet on July 30, 2007 10:45 am
So... I'm gonna start on the Plateau Busting Diet on Wednesday... Wish me luck!
My new mini-goals are as follows:
September 23rd Wedding in Minnesota 9 weeks away - I want to be in Onederland by then - that's about 15 pounds away - I really hope to be down another 25-30 pounds in all.
My Birthday 10-19-07 - 13 weeks away - Down 35 pounds hoping to go to Tennesee, pheasant hunting, with my boyfriend!
Thanksgiving 2007 - 18 weeks away - I want to be able to get most of it off hopefull at least 45-50 pounds.
Christmas 2007 - 22 weeks away - all of my weight gone as a gift to myself and to my doctor for my follow-up exam that is going to happen on the 27th of December!
Wow, I've gotta get moving- I do have a plan.
Last week I started walkiing 2x a day on Mondays and Tuesdays for a total of about 3 miles a day
Wednesdays I walk 2 miles in the evening and then once in the evening for about a mile and a half on thursdays and fridays.
I've got exercise parners in the evennig and in the mornings I ell myself I can't have a cigarette until after I walk my mile -( And I have to walk it in under 15 minutes - Hey it works!)
Like I said, I'm gonna start my diet to get things moving on Wednesday and I've also cut out alcohol from my intake for over the past week. I ahven't been on a scale since last Monday, but lets see what happens here over the next few weeks!
I'm excited!
