Surgeon Testimonial

David S. Thoman, M.D.,F.A.C.S.
Dr. Thoman is very straightforward in dealing with patients. My surgery and post-operative course has been very uneventful. Dr. Thoman has a very simple and regimented post-operative plan that he coordinates with a Dietician at Sansum Clinic.

5 Month Update
on August 1, 2007 1:36 pm
Hi Everyone,

I am now just aout 5 months out from my surgery and am down 120 pounds.  I say "down" and not that I have "lost" the weight as "lost" implies that I may start looking for it again.  NO WAY IS THAT GOING TO HAPPEN!!!

I am feeling so darn good now.  I cannot believe how much better my life is and I'm only a little over half-way through my weight loss journey.  I am so anxious to see how much better things get as I continue to lose weight.

I hope you are all doing great on your journey, not matter what stage you're in.  Best Wishes to all of you.

2 Months Out
on May 15, 2007 7:26 am
Hi All,

I am feeling so good that I just had to write about it.  I cannot believe how much better I feel in the 2 months since I had my RNY.  I've only lost 80# (wait a minute, what do I mean ONLY??), but I already feel so much better.  I still have about 135 to go to get to my goal, but I'm sure I'll get there eventually.

I hope you are all doing well.

My Story

Hi Everyone,

I have been fighting to control my weight ever since I was 13 years old.  Prior to that I was active in sports and just regular "kid stuff".  Unfortunately, the area in which I live did not have organized sports for kids after that age (except for high school sports), so I discovered computers.  I started playing on the computer and eating junk food by the handful.  I was never in the clinically obese category until my mid-20's when I started working at a desk all day.

I did many weight loss programs, half-heartedly to say the least.  The only one I had any success with was a medically-supervised liquid fasting program through the Clinic at which I work.  I started at 298# and got down to 225#.  I kept it off for about 1.5 years, but then I stopped walking every day and went back to my old eating habits.

I had the Roux-En-Y surgery on March 8, 2007, at 439#.  As of today, I am down to 360# for a loss of 79#.  I am so thrilled with the results just after 2 months.  I have been fortunate in that I had no post-op complications, pain or anything.  I have been up and about since the day after the surgery.

I have had a little trouble advancing to some foods.  I try a little and if it doesn't sit well, I know to hold off a little longer on that food.  I am trying as hard as I can to make the healthy eating that I have to do right now because of the surgery my new lifestyle.  Of course, the best thing for me right now is that I FEEL FULL!!!  I can't remember the last time I felt that way prior to the surgery.

I am also enjoying the physical improvements that I have noticed after the 79 pound loss.  I am breathing so much easier and my knees don't hurt anymore.  I was limping by the time I finally had the surgery, but not anymore.  I didn't even realize how much I was struggling to breathe until I don't have to anymore.  And, I know that this will get even better as I continue to lose.

No matter what stage of weight loss you are in, I wish you the best.  I am so glad to have found this site so that I can get, and give, support in this effort.
