My first impression was that he was to the point, very matter of fact.rnThere has been no change in my impression of Dr. Shina.rnThe office staff has always been very helpful and curtious.rnI would not say there is something I like the least. He is to the point.rnAfter care is just as important if not more important than the day of surgery.rnThere is a program starting right after surgery there is structure, structure, and more structure.rnAt your first appointment with Dr. Shina you have a long seminar that go over all of the risks.rnI give Dr. Shina a 9 on a scale of 1-10. rnSurgical competence I would say are above bedside manner, some people tend to say he is too much to the point when speaking to patient.

I currently live in Fort Knox, KY. Recently moved here for Fort Richardson, AK. Not so much loving KY, but it has been good for since I got a new doctor who is willing to help me through my weight loss journey. I enjoy working out (when I am not fat!).Typically I love fishing and camping. Of course I loved it more in AK!! GO SALMON FISHING! (WE WILL GO BACK) I am married to a soldier in the US ARMY, with 2 beautiful boys 8 + 13 years old.

The ride of my life.

I finally had it done and am on my way to a healthier me. There are already so many changes. I would have to say that I would go back and do it all over again if I had to, that is how much impact it has already made in my life. I know there will be hurdles, but I am up for the challenge. I cannot be happier.

My Story

I am a 31 year old mother of 2. After giving birth to my second son, I suddenly gained LOTS of weight. For some time no one could figure out what or why I had such a huge gain. Come to find out I have PCOS, high cholesterol, insulin resistance and sleep apnea. Well no wonder I had gained all that weight right. So since we had a diagnosis I was hoping that I would be able to do a diet and loose it with excersize (Yeah, not so much). So Finally after 8.5 long years of the weight loss roller coaster, I finally found a doctor that was willing to just give me an appt with a WLS surgeon. THANK THE HEAVENS. I got the approval from my insurance and have a date of 19 JAN 2009. It will be quite a year. I will finally get to play with my kiddo's and not be laid up for days with hip pain!!~!
