Surgeon Testimonial

Titus Duncan
My consultation was originally scheduled for September, but I called on 08/01/02 to ask a question and they told me that a spot had opened up for the following day!!

On 08/08/02 I had my consult. It went great. EVERYONE in Dr. Duncan's office is so NICE! The waiting area has oversized chairs or chairs with no arms. It was so comfortable.

Detail of events: I had to fill out some more paperwork then they have a nurse, who takes you back and weighs you, does blood pressure & ask some questions. I was then led to a room for the group consult/session with Dr. Speights (an associate of Dr. Duncan's - she is also present during the surgery). She explained the procedure and allowed us to ask questions. There were 6 ladies in the group. She was VERY funny, professional and she made me feel so comfortable. I really liked her. After the group consult, she took each of us back individually to discuss our specific history and look at our stomach.

Next Steps: Before I left, I was given some paperwork to tell me what to do next. I scheduled my psychological evaluation for Monday Aug 12. We also needed a letter of referral from my PCP.

Talked to Elizabeth this morning. She sounded much stronger and had just enjoyed her first 32 cc of apple juice. She said it just "tasted so good". She is very thirsty from yesterday and will be able to have 32 cc every 30 minutes today. She will have her leak test and should be home around 2 - 3 p.m. THANKS TO DR. DUNCAN for doing a great job on another patient! Smiles to you Elizabeth, Angela

I'm down 75 pounds!

I went to the dr on Monday and I have "officially" lost 47 pounds!!! YEAHHHHHHHH I'm so excited. The past two weeks I have gotten a lot of compliments from co-workers. I feel so good about myself!   I went shopping over the weekend and bought 14's and 16's!!
Granted they were nice brands (Jones, Ralph Lauren) so I know they are cut a little bigger.....but STILL!! I can say I wear a 14!!! WOOHOOOOOOO

Back in 1998 I was at my heaviest (320 pounds), so I have officially lost more than 100 pounds!!!

I do feel like I have hit a small plateau though. Last night I was talking to a dear friend and she sent me a food plan to break the plateau!! Hopefully it works!

I had my 2 month post op appt yesterday and I'm down 35 pounds!! WOOHOO

I started back at the gym on Wednesday. I have a personal trainer that I'll be working with three times a week. He kicked my tail both Wed and today. My arms and abs are soooooo sore! I also bought a program from Target to do at home. It's called The Firm. A GF of mine recommended it to me. I'll let you know how I like it; once I use it!

I'm having problems not eating enough. With the move to the new home I haven't been "preparing" meals like I should! My goal starting Monday is to do more meal planning and really watch/count my protein intake! My doctor warned me that during the third month is when you typically start loosing hair! The key to not loose so much is PROTEIN!

Thanks so much ladies!!! My surgery is the 27th (8 more days)!!! I am a little nervous, but will probably be a wreck this time next Sunday. I've seen wonderful results from the surgery and can't wait for my "new life" to begin.

I will most definately be posting a "please pray for me thread" next Sunday!! I'm so worried of the "what-ifs". It is a risky procedure - national average is 1 our of 200 die. My surgeon has had 1 out of 700 die - his numbers are VERY encouraging. Okay - no more death talk!! I MUST THINK POSITIVE!!

Again thanks for thinking of me!!!

Hi everyone!!!  PRAISE GOD, I'm on the other side!!!!!

First I want to thank you all again for the prayers and well wishes. Let me tell you they WORKED!! So far I have done amazingly well and I KNOW that all the prayers have been key!!

I got home today around 2pm and took a 2 hour nap!  It sure felt good to be in my own bed! I have a little pain, but nothing unbearable.

Here are some details for those of you interested.

My surgery lasted about 2 hours yesterday and by 3pm I was in my private room. Three hours later the nursed finally allowed me to start walking. I had been bugging them for a while to do so. I continued to walk about every hour. And in no time they took my catheter out - YEAH!! I had a morphine pump and used it often!  I had very little pain! The worst part was being THIRSTY!! I was not allowed to drink anything - not even ice chips!

I had to wait until the "leak" test was performed before any liquids could be given to me. Throughout the night I kept waking up to look at the clock, hoping and praying it was morning! Of course, each time an hour had only passed! LOL At 2am I walked some more. By 3am I was in a good bit of pain and the morphine wasn't working as well as it had been. They came and added something "extra" to my IV. It KNOCKED me out! At 5am the nurse woke me up, had me wash up and change my gown. I was feeling really good and put on some makeup and added a few curls to my ponytail! hehe

Around 9am I did the leak test and everything looked good. They allowed me to start drinking apple juice. I have never tasted juice so GOOD!! ummmm  Today I can drink 30cc's of any liquid every 30 minutes. Sixty cc's will be allowed tomorrow! And by Thursday I will be up to about 2 ounces every 30 minutes. The liquid phase will last approx two weeks.

That's about it! Again, thank you all for the thoughts and prayers.

I want to say HELLO to two wonderful people I have met thanks to this web site. HI Bernice & Jeff!!! Bernice & Jeff also see Dr. Duncan and are scheduled for surgery in January :)!! Funny story.....Bernice and I had been exchaning emails before my psych eval. A day or so after my eval, I got an email from her telling me to CALL HER ASAP!! Turns out I had ran into Jeff and his wife during my visit with Dr. Santavicca and didn't even know it was him (small world). I had chatted with Jeff's wife for about 15 minutes (wonderful lady by the way) in the waiting area and had briefly spoken to Jeff as we passed through the doorway. A few weeks later I had the great pleasure of officially meeting Bernice and Jeff. They are 2 awesome (and I can't leave out FUNNY) people, they made me feel like I'd known them my entire life. I laughed so much that afternoon. : ) I feel blessed to have them as friends!!

It's been a while since I've updated.  A few things have happened since my last visit.  I started having "chest" pains and a lot of abdominal pain above my c-section incision.  My PCP advised me to stop taking phentermine and he sent me for a stress test.  The stress test turned out fine and I've had no more chest pains in a few weeks.  My obgyn checked out my abdominal pain and thinks I have an incision hernia (apparently
common in c-section patients).  I am scheduled on the 31st to go and have ultrasounds done at the hospital.  She told me to go ahead and check to see if Dr. Duncan would do a hernia repair while doing by bypass.  I called and found out he WILL!!  Now I just have to see it that's exactly the problem.  I'm curious how this will or will not affect a tummy tuck.  Anyone have any ideas?  That's all for now.  Take care everyone!
