Surgeon Testimonial

Thirumalairaj Jayakumar M.D.
I picked Dr. Turnquest to perform my surgery He has a great personality, very soft spoken, nice guy. The first time I met him was at the seminar, he was very informative. The seccond time was at his office for my first visit. His staff is great! Ericka is working very hard to get everything I need to submit to my insurance co. She is very helpful, nice, and knows her stuff, that alone is very helpful. This is what I thought in the beginning. WRONG!!! Hope if you use them you have a cut and dry case. If there is any work to be involved, forget it. They seem to only want to work on case's that don't require any effort. I have now switched surgeons, and have gone to NuWeigh. They know what they're doing.

6 year anniversary
on February 27, 2013 7:40 am

On February 19th, I celebrated my 6th year after my gastric bypass. I am proud to say that i am still healthy, slim, and confident! I am so glad i don't have to struggle with my food intake any more. Use to, I could clean my entire plate and then some, plus desert. Now I eat my proportioned amount and that is all i can take in, i'm full after that. I am holding steady at my current weight at 176 which is perfect for my size and height. I am in a size 8 - 10, up from a size 6. I like how i look now, at a size 6 i looked sick, cheeks were sunk in, looked really bad, so i'm very pleased where i am now. I am so thankful that i had the gastric bypass done, i would do it in a heartbeat! If you are reading this and are considering the bypass, really research it, i have friends that have that have had this surgery and gained ALL of their weight back. I luckily have kept most of mine off, however i'v also had two back surgeries, and will have a 3rd on tomorrow. So I haven't been able to really exercise much do to my back hurting all the time. But when I do get back in the rythem of things I will get back down to a size 8, thats only about 2 inches, but being in a single digit of clothing is a big deal. I have fallen short of taking my suplements and i'm paying for it now. My eye sight has gone from walmart reading glasses to tri-focals, i'm now anemic and have to take iron. So it is very important that you take your suplements as directed because if you don't, it will effect you. Good luck!

Holding steady!!!

Wow, well it's been 4 years now since my gastric bypass. I'm still maintaining my weight at 165 size 8 to 10. I have not had any complications. I did have to have back surgery last year, had a herniated disk. So that surgery was in May of 2010. I actually reinjured in July and had to have surgery again. I am still dealing with that, have back pain all the time. My husband and I hired a personal trainer to try and tone up the little bit of lose skin I have and strengthen the muscles in my back. Well that's on hold for now because my back is bothering me again. I don't think any of this is related to my gastric bypass, but my neurologist says is could  have some impact on my spine do to the weight loss, carrying around that extra weight for so long and then losing it, now there's not that extra pressure on my spine. Who knows, I just hope I can get it fixed. I love being able to go to Splashtown with my kids and ride the rides, like even more being able to wear a bathing suit and feel comfortable in it, I even have a tankini!!! How awesome is that? I love the fact that I finally have the weight off. It feels so good. I am even trying to quit smoking. That's a little ruffer than I thought it would be. I'm trying though. I just hope I don't gain any weight in the process. All is good and I'm very thankful!

Well here we are already in November, this year flew by!!! I am almost 9 months post op and now weight 170 lbs.  I've lost a total of 105 lbs. I'm now in a size 8, some 10's depending on the brand. Still working on the skin thing, not to bad, but it bugs me a little. Doc says I have good elasticity in my skin, so it should spring back. I hope! Still love going to the gym. We are leaving on the 27th to go see my son graduate from bootcamp ( GO NAVY!) in Greatlakes IL. Can't wait to see him. Hope he recognizes me!!! I am half the size I was when he left, plus I bought a beautiful wig, I look completly different than when he was here. LOL ought to be interesting.  All is good!

5 Months out!!!
on July 15, 2007 8:12 pm

WOW, is about all I can say at this point, I have crossed over to oenderland!!!! Today I weighed and am 198! I can't believe it! My BMI is 31 and I am now obese instead of morbidly obese! I have gone from a 22 to a 14 in less than 5 months. I still have about 30-40 lbs to go. My husband and I just joined a gym and I love it!  All else is well, well, I think I may be having a problem with the old gall bladder, kinda have an annoying pain in the right side. I'm having an ultrasound on Thurs, hope everything is ok. I'll post when I get the results.

My Story

Hi, I am 36 years old, very happily married, and mother of 3. I have been overweight for most of my life, especially after childbirth! Tried everything there is on this earth to lose weight, obviously not succesful. I don't really have any life threatening health concerns at this time, that I know of, but have family history of obesity, CHF, stroke, and cancer. I don't have HBP, Colesteol, diabetes. But I do have reflux really bad and my joints and back hurt so bad at times I can't hardly move. I have chosen the RNY. I've never had surgery before or been put to sleep, rather nervous about the procedure. I have chosen my surgeon, Dr. Dexter Turnquest in Houston. He is such a nice person, very soft spoken, informative, his staff is great too! I am in the process of getting approval from my insurance co. We have Aetna. Have heard they are hard to crack, so trying not to get my hopes up to soon. I have already done my psych eval and nutrition appt.. I have researched this procedure in depth and am very excited about getting healthy and losing the extra person I've been carrying around, lol as my Doc described. I know once I lose this weight, I'll be able to do the things I so long for, like being able to walk without getting so winded, or tying my shoes without tuning beat red and sweating to death before I can get back up! Energy, I can't wait, concidering that I have none, lol wonder what it's like to have some. I'll be able to keep up with my kids. Please pray for me, and my family as we journey through this life changing experience! I'll update as soon as I have more info.
