Surgeon Testimonial

David Kam, M.D.
I wasn't sure if I like him at first but felt very comfortable with his skills as a surgeon. He turned out to be a truly wonderful Doctor with a great bedside manner. I would reccommend him to anyone needing this type of surgery.

Friday is your day! Just remember you are on the journey of a lifetime. Try to enjoy every minute. It may sound weird now, but know that you are cared for and prayed for here, and all too soon this will be but a memory and you will be an inspiration to someone else. I am waiting for you on the losers' bench!

Tuesdays...
I'm so glad tomorrow is "hump" day!  My week is almost half way over.  It's kind of sad that I wish my weeks away because of work!   It's like I'm wishing my life away!!  I ordered a new pair of boots online tonight.  Pajar Womens Sled Boots.  I got them so that I have something to wear while walking out in the nasty cold weather.  I had to order red ones, the dark brown and dark green were available only in sizes 10 and up!  I wear a 7 in a boot.  But since I will only be wearing them with jeans or other outdoor wear I guess red will be ok.  They look kind of cool and I really need a pair.  My old ones are like 15 years old and very uncomfortable to walk/hike in.  The Spanx I ordered arrived today.  I love Spanx!!  The two hide and sleek fit wonderful and are so comfortable.  The other cami, well let me tell you!  I thought I was going to have to have my hubby help me get it on!  Talk about snug!!  After a few minutes of struggling I finally got it on and over my big boobs! I can't imagine struggling like that in the morning with damp hair!!   But once I got it on it felt kind of comfortable, not too tight but you definately know you have something on!!  What I really like about all 3 is that it smooths out my "back fat"  and  you don't see any bra lines.  Plus it smooths out and flattens out my tummy.

Sue and I walked today for 35 minutes doing 2 miles.  The nature trail is starting to get really snowy but we walked/ hiked it today.  Not sure how much longer we'll be able to do it but we will be able to walk the road.  We also swam after work for an hour and 20 minutes.  The pool was just barely warm enough to get in and stay in.  We were starting to get a bit chilled by the time we got out.  I wish they'd just set the temp on 85ish and leave it alone!!

Hubby is off work  2 weeks for hunting.  He got a big doe opening day- frankly I wish he'd go back to work, he is driving me crazy!!!   He goes back to work Dec 1( I think).  Hopefully, I can make it that long with out taking him out and hanging him on the buck pole!  I'm just not use to him invading my space and time in the evenings.  I'm use to watching what I want on TV and making what I want for dinner.   Urrgh  Men!!

Saturdays...
Today I walked/jogged on my treadmill for 45 minutes doing 3 miles.  I then cooled down and did stretches for another 15 minutes.  I was really sweating- alot!   I am planning on using my hand weights- 5lbs- later on tonight.  The weights are really helping tone up my arms and upper back.  I've been doing them about 3 days a week, anymore than that and I get really sore.

I ordered 3 Spanx from QVC that were shipped out today.  I can't wait to get them.  I order all size medium, the one large I have now I love but it's getting a bit too big for me.  I ordered one  seamless Body shaping camisole - the heavy duty kind and 2 "hide and sleek" which are more of a medium "strength".  I really love the one Spanx I have and I've been buying a few more tops and slacks that would just look better if I had a little something helping to hold everything in, if you now what I mean!  I can't wait to get them.

Nothing much going on here today- it's cold and very windy out.  Every now and then it starts to snow.  It looks like a blizzard out when it starts.  I don't think we're suppose to get any real accumulations.  I guess winter really is here.

I'm such an idiot sometimes!!!!!
on November 11, 2008 3:17 pm
How long will it take for me to learn what NOT to eat!!!  I knew before I went to the grocery store today that chicken is a big no no for me.  So, why did I buy one of those rotisserie chickens?  Did I really think that my band was just going to shout "surprise, I was just foolin ya before when that chicken you were eating got stuck"!!   About 3-4 bites into my meal it hit me- HARD!   I hiccuped several times really hard and then I  started to slime, had to run to the bathroom and spit for about 10 minutes or so.  The good news is I didn't puke and it only lasted about 10 minutes.  It wasn't real painful, just pretty uncomfortable.   I knew that was going to happen, I don't know why I just had to test it.

I called today for another fill.  I can't get in until Dec 4th at 10:30am.  I was hoping to get in next week but my surgeons schedule was too full so I took the first available.  This will be my 9th fill- I'm such a slow learner it's probably a good thing he's such a conservative filler.  I've lost about 6lbs since my last fill Oct 9th and I'd like to lose another 2-3lbs before I go in.  I just need to really crack down and start measuring my food intake.  It's so easy to get away from doing that and over time my portion sizes get bigger and bigger.  And of course, anything junk foody goes right down no problems at all!  I wish junk food would get stuck.  Of course if  I was as smart as I thought I was I wouldn't have any junk food in my HOUSE!  Did I already tell you I'm an idiot!!!!  Oh well, tomorrow is another day and I will do better!!!

Today Sue and I walked at break for 30 minutes very briskly, we did 2 miles.  We didn't go swimming tonight after work, Sue had a hair appointment.  So we walked again for our afternoon break for 30 minutes and did 2 miles again.  I am so grateful Sue likes to exercise!  I really don't know what I would do if it weren't for her!  I should get her something for Christmas!  Yeah, I think I will!!

Treadmill Day 1...
on November 9, 2008 11:22 am
Ok, I'm just going to MAKE myself do it!!!  That is walk/run on my treadmill.  Especially on those days that I just can't or didn't walk outside.  With the weather being typically crappy in upper Michigan this time of year that means I need to hit the old treadmill again.  Actually, it wasn't too bad.  Once I got started I was fine and decided to mix it up and did intervals of running 5.5 miles an hour for 90 seconds.  After 38 minutes and 2.5 miles I did 15 minutes of stretches and then came crunches on my exercise ball.  I think I'll shoot for 3 miles on the treadmill next time and once I can run for longer periods of time 4 miles.  I use to run track in high school and I think, just from past experience, once your body has been in shape it can get back in shape quicker than someone whose never really been in good physical shape.  I don't know if that's really true or not but it seems so to me.  I need to get some good up beat music to walk/run too, that makes a huge difference to me.  I'll have to put that on my list next time I go shopping.

Ugh!! It's snowing out!!!!
on November 9, 2008 7:09 am
As I look out my window while typing this it looks like there's a blizzard going on out there!!  It's snowing hard and blowing like crazy.  I am so not ready for this!  There's no way you can walk in this stuff and for some reason I'm having a terrible time motivating myself to use my treadmill.  What is my problem?!!!!  It can't be the winter blues yet, winter hasn't offically started yet.  Someone needs to tell Mother Nature that.

I did get in 30 minutes of walking yesterday.  My husband and I went to bait his deer blind and I had him drop me off about 2 miles from our house so that I could walk back.  It took me just 30 minutes.  My hubby has been working overtime and some double shifts so there's no way he's going to exercise with me when that's going on.  As it is he barely gets 5.5 hrs of sleep.  He does have a week or so at deer season so I can probably get he to walk then, provided the weather clears up some.  I don't mind walking in the cold but I hate it when it really windy.  Yesterday I also did some weight training.  I was using 2lb weights but I bumped it up to 5lb weights last night.  My plan is to use the weights about 3 times a week.

I started my christmas shopping the other day.  I got my Mom a glass Tea Pot with green tea flowers.  You just add boiling water to the pot and drop in the "tea ball" and while it's steeping the ball opens up into a beautiful flower.  She loves tea and I thought this looked really neat.  I bought two of them, not sure who I'll give the other one too.  I've been trying to figure out what to get my kids.  I've asked but there not responding!  My daughter already got her big gift- she wanted a shot gun so that she could go deer hunting with her new boyfriend.  Who knew that my little girl would turn into a hunter!  My son doesn't really care too much about it.  I will probably end up going shopping with my daughter so she can pick out some clothes.  I might buy her a music box too so she'll have at least one surprise.  I was online last night and came across a neat website that had all sorts of music boxes.  I'll have to give it some thought.  I love shopping!  We'll I guess that's enough of my ramblings for now...

My Story

I am  46 yrs old ( I don't feel that old though) married mother of two great kids ages 23 and 19.  I have been overweight most of my adult life.  I have tried just about everything to lose weight from Weight Watchers ( 3 times) Nutri System (2 times), Metabalife, SlimFast, Herbalife and the list goes on.  I knew I needed to lose weight but about a year and a half ago my doctor put me on high blood pressure medication.  You'd think that would be motivation enough to lose some of the weight but here I am 20+ pounds heavier.  A friend of mine started looking into WLS options and she told me about the LapBand.  I was so interested I started doing some research on my own.  On August 10th 07 I met with the Dr I hope will be doing my surgery.  I am now waiting for all my paperwork to be submitted to him so that his office can send it to my Insurance for approval.  So, this is the begining of my story...
