Surgeon TestimonialMark A. Shina, M.D.I found the surgeon pleasant, very informative and a wonderful staff. They are very thorough and a great asset to his business. Answered all my questions, even when I would call daily. Surgery on Monday... will have to let you know how the procedure went....

Here I am.... overweight and ready to embrace a new life!!! I've struggled with weight, since the birth of my first child, I have 3 all together, in 1986. I am 41 years young and scared to death of not surviving the surgery. I'm putting my faith in God, as always, and trusting in Him that the surgery is the correct answer to my medical problems. My name is Penny and I live in Southern Indiana... great to be here!!!!

My Story
HI! I'm not very good with computers, but I'm hoping to get my daughter to help me load some pic's and help with my profile. My story? Um, well... it's kinda boring.. I mean not to me, of course, but to someone else it would be. I met my hubby in 1983, when I was 16 years old, and he was 18. We met in Waukegan, IL, while he attended boot camp with my brother. We were "pen pals" for about 19 months, dated 3 weeks, and then married in August 1985. I was a average size girl, size 7/8, weight @ 137lbs., but then had my first son 9 1/2 months after I got married. I gained 50lbs with the first child, 1986, but lost it all with exercise and dexatrim. I, then, went and gained 55lbs. with our daughter in 1988 (guess I didn't learn my lesson the first time), but never lost it all. I did lose back down to 147lbs, but then steadily gained for the next 20 years. Being a Navy wife meant my husband was gone a lot and I mean a lot! But, I always found comfort in the nearest fast food restuarant. My parents owned a Dairy Queen growing up, so seeking comfort from fast food, just seemed a way to be closer to my family. I'm from central Texas, Native Texan, but my husband and I lived in California, New York, Virginia, Texas and South Carolina. We now reside in Indiana, but I miss my family. Gone are the days of needing to find comfort in that way... I pray it is so!!! Anyway, in 2004 we got the shock, and blessing, of our lives! We concieved another boy, after the dr. assured us it couldn't happen. So, at age 37 I gave birth to our youngest, who is mentally slow with Fragile X Syndrome. He's such a sweet blessing! I acquired numerous medical problems during pregnancy, but they didn't go away after delivery. My health started a down hill slide, until I finally asked for a referrel to a bariatric surgeon. I suffer from hypertenstion, border-line diabetes, fatty liver, lymphedema and some joint discomfort (legs). The surgery is my idea, but my hubby and kids are sooooooooooo excited! My mom won't speak to me about it and my surgery is this Monday, March 24th. I know the Lord will keep me safe and whatever happens.. I have peace that I am in His will for my life. I am currently 250lbs, but my highest weight is 259lbs. I've been reading everyone's messages on life, so I guess i've learned that my journey begins on Monday.. pray for me, please!
