Surgeon Testimonial

William Chapman M.D.
My first impression of Dr. Chapman was that he was a very skilled surgeon, not just in bariatrics. He is my husband's surgeon (for colorectal cancer). Dr. Chapman and his staff have always been upfront and very honest with both of us. rnrnDr. Chapman is a very busy physician but will stop and talk/answer questions that you have; just be prepared when he comes in the room. rnrnAftercare is extremely important for WLS patients and he is very upfront about that with his patients. If you are not going to follow the program, then think twice about having this surgery. Only you can make it a success. No one can do that for you.rnrnThe risks of the surgery were discussed in detail several times prior to surgery. It was mandatory that your support person attend one of these visits. Everything was explained to my husband and he was given the opportunity to ask questions and feel comfortable with my decision to have WLS.rnrnI would rate Dr. Chapman and his staff a 10 out of 10!rnYou won't go wrong with him.rn

I'm now 54 and it's been almost 4 years since my WLS.  I lost 129 pounds at my lowest weight of 131 but that was after surgery for colon cancer from which I had complications.  That was an impossible weight for me to maintain and was framkly too low for me I think.  I am now maintaining at 145 pounds which is 5-10 pounds higher than I'd really like.  Considering what I've been through, I've done very well.  I eat pretty much anything that I want, just not much of it.  That is one of the main goals I had when I decided to go down the WLS road.  I can eat like a normal person SHOULD eat!  I feel great and I'm healthy (cancer free) and life is good.

I'm now the Nana to 2 beautiful granddaughters whom I adore.  My hubby and I celebrated our 36th anniversary  in July.   On a sad note, i lost my mother last November; she and I were so close and I miss her terribly.  She lived next door to me so it's sad to look through the window and see that empty house there.  My daugher and her husband plan to buy the house as soon as they can sell their duplex.  It will be wonderful to see that house alive again, hopefully with grandchildren coming in the near future.

Having WLS was the single best decision I have ever made for my health, both physically and mentally.  I encourage anyone that in interested in it, do so after making the committlment to follow the doctor's instructions and do it for the right reasons!  Best wishes!  Alice

I am a 51 year old wife and mother of 2.  My husband, Ronnie and I have been very happily married for 32 years.  We have 2 dogs, a 4 year old pekingese, Sparky and a 1 year old chocolate lab, Cody.  I am an administrator at the ECU Medical School.  We spend time at White Lake in the summer.  I love to travel; I went to France my senior year of high school.  In 2004 I traveled with a great group to Ireland, N. Wales, Scotland, England, France and Germany.  This was a 19 day trip of a lifetime.  I just completed a huge scrapbook from this trip.  My favorite hobby is scrapbooking.  This is something that my wonderful daughter and I enjoy together.

I have battled my weight as long as I can remember.  I have lost and gained weight several times. I seem to  wake up every morning vowing to start over again and get my eating under control but I never seem to win that battle.  I believe that my last option is to have gastric bypass.  This is a major step and I pray that God will see me through it.  I have the support of all my family and friends.   Let the journey begin......

I'm normal weight for the first time in many, many...
on December 25, 2009 9:10 am
I haven't updated my blog in a year.  It's hard to believe how fast time flies by.  Over the past year, I've maintained my weight and prepared for my first plastic surgery procedure.  I had a lower body lift with lipo on the outter thighs on Nov. 24th.  The pain was manageable thanks to my darling hubby making sure I took my pain meds on time.  I'm 4 weeks out now and most of the swelling is gone and I'm very happy with the early results.  It takes a few months for everything to settle so we'll see how things look later in the spring.  I am thinking about having the "girls" fixed also.  Wanna get the LBL paid for first.

I'm so blessed to have had the RNY and the LBL.  I've lost  a total of 127 pounds.  It's amazing how much better I feel, physically and mentally.  I'm getting in shape to be able to keep up with my first grandchild due in June 2010!  Can't wait to meet him/her.  Ready to spoil and love unconditionally!

One year surgiversary
on October 22, 2008 3:12 am

Sunday made a year since my gastric-bypass.  I had my one year follow up appointment today with Dr. Chapman.  He was very pleased with the results of the surgery and my weight loss.   I wanted to share the following with you.

Since Oct. 4, 2007  I’ve lost: 118 pounds & my BMI has gone from 47.5 to 26
Gone from a tight size 22 to a 10 petite

In inches I’ve lost:
Neck 2.5”
Shoulders 7.5”
Chest 9.38”
Bust  11.75
Bicep  6.5”
Forearm 2.75”
Wrist  .88”
Midriff 14”
Waist  23”
Hips  22”
Thigh  9.75”
Calf  5” A
nkle  1.75”

Total inches lost…… 116 3/4”

I’m off all prescription meds for BP, depression & insomnia, AND I’ve avoided diabetes and having to take cholesterol meds.  All my cholesterol levels are well within normal range.  I’m only about 6 pounds away from having a normal BMI.  My body fat % is within normal range.  This surgery has truly been a miracle….

9 month update - 107 pounds gone forever!
on July 20, 2008 12:44 pm

Well a lot has happened since I updated my page last.  Let's see now, as for WOW moments, on June 18th I hit the 100 pound lost mark which was so fabulous.  I am down to a size large/14 pants and a medium/large top.  It's so nice to be able to go into a store and buy clothes and just know they will fit.  Today I took all the size 16s out of the closet and will pass them along to a worthy cause.

In April I had my first colonscopy and a small carcinoid tumor was found.  I had surgery on May 28th and came home on June 2nd.  My 96 year old grandmother died on June 6th.  She and I were so very close and I miss her greatly.  Over the next week I developed some complications, which later was diagnosed as a stricture at the site of the anastomosis which caused a great deal of pain.  I ended up back in the hospital for 4 days.  I'm still having problems and will have the 2nd Flex Sig/dilation procedure tomorrow.  I pray that it works this time.

I can't believe that in a short 9 months I've come so far in reaching my weight loss goals.  I've said it before and I'll say it again:  having the gastric bypass is THE BEST THING I'VE EVER DONE FOR MYSELF!

5 months and WOW do I feel great!
on March 23, 2008 3:38 pm
I would have never believed that in only 5 months I would already feel so much better.  I'm down 72 pounds and 82 inches. I can climb stairs and still be able to breathe.  I can walk 2 miles and still keep going.  I'm wearing a large/XL in tops and a 16w pants.  I found homes for tons of size 22/24/2X clothes.  Even some of my shoes are feeling kinda big.

I actually look forward to summer, except for the inevitable skin issues that I had even before losing weight.  That's Ok, I'll document them and hopefully by next year, I can start the next journey towards getting that taken care of.

Well, I need to work on my scrapbook page for Month 5.....
