Hired an Attorney on November 27, 2006 4:28 pm
November 27, 2006
Well, I officially hired an attorney today. Here are my reasons I did it:
1. Kaiser requires 6 months (24 weeks) of classes prior to being sent to the surgeons. I have done so much research on this life saving surgery what else could they possible teach me? And 24 classes?? That is crazy!! I can't imagine having to do this. To top it off, I am on a WAITING LIST for the classes. I MIGHT get into the end of January classes...so that would push me out to end of July before I finish the classes. Then another 3-4 months until I get to see the surgeons.
2. I think EVERYONE should have an advocate through this process. I don't believe that the insurance companies are on our side. They always seem to discourage the surgery.
3. They will help get all of my medical records ordered and prepared for the appeal.....which we all know happens first before we ever get an approval.
4. The attorney will file information with the Department of Insurance and Department of Managed Care so that they can track the insurance companies handlings of WLS. Those departments are becoming more aware of what these insurances companies are putting their patients through in order to have this life saving surgery.
I am praying that instead of having to wait another year to have surgery, that I will have surgery in March or April. The sooner the better. I also want it sooner because I will be walking in The 3 Day Breast Cancer walk in October. I would love to have this weight off by then.
Why do insurance companies make this so hard? Ugh!
Anyways, I know some of you reading may not agree with me but that is why I hired an attorney!!
God Bless EVERYONE!!!

Tom's Farm, My first OH Event on November 18, 2006 4:53 pm
November 18, 2006
My husband and I went to our first OH Event at Tom's Farm. We had a great time meeting everyone. JillieCats made me feel good when she recognized me first thing. I was nervous walking over but that put me right at easel. Everyone is so friendly. I got to finally meet: Little Missy, Lynn, Luana, Gus, Kevin, Dana, Anne, Sheryl, Christine, Nikki (my Kaiser Buddy), and I am sure I am missing someone but you guys ROCK!!!! I wish we could have stayed longer.
I really love this board!! I don't think I would keep fighting to have this surgery without all the people on this board!!
Thanks you guys!!!!

SYSK on November 13, 2006 11:35 am
Thank you Melissa for choosing me and Tanya A as the SYSK's of the week. It really means a lot to be chosen. I really am quite surprised!! Love to you, Melissa.
Well, I have been walking 3 miles on Mondays and Thursdays. I can't believe it. Now I am going to add Wednesdays to that. I feel good about myself. Sometimes I feel like I am dieing when I am walking up the "HELL" hill but, hey, I am making it.
I still haven't heard anything from Kaiser about my Options classes. I am sure they won't start unitl January/February.
I am very excited that I am going to my first OH event this weekend. I am going to Tom's Farm to meet by buddies in person. I am truly excited and a little nervous.
