Trip to Cuba

Mar 30, 2012

I have returned from my birthday/engagement trip that Bob and I took to Cuba.
The beaches were amazing, the resort was wonderful and our day trip into Moron was a real eye opener into the "real" life of Cuban's.

What I struggled with most was the food choices.
Each day I was faced with a buffet filled with breads, pasta's, meats, fruits, cheese, deserts, icecream and a variety of salads.
For breakfast...I tried a variety of items and was successful on some including toast with a fried egg for breakfast, side order of a few slices of fresh pineapple or watermelon.
Throughout the morning hours I drank watered down orange juice with tons of ice.
Lunch was a little more difficult....all the buffet was the same choices, some days I would eat 1/2 a hot dog with 1/2 bun, other day's I tried to eat some salad (cucumber, shredded carrot with some dressing) and ended lunch with some fresh fruit.
The most difficult meal was dinner - 3 nights I had fish; 2 nights I loved it, the 3rd night....just couldn't stomach it.  I tried pasta 1 night  and that didn't go down to well; another night just had a salad and again that didn't go down to well.

Since I have difficulty with meats, I didn't want to try the meat's in Cuba (other than the fish).
I tried some of the rice dishes and as long as I only had 2 or 3 spoon fulls, I was ok.
I ate lots of fresh fruit, tons of cucumbers and shredded carrots and drank lots of orange juice (watered down with ice cubes).
One day I had a rum and fruit punch drink and on my birthday, I had a small slice of birthday cake (minus the icing).  I handed out the rest of the cake to patron's in the restaurant.

I am thankful I brought peanut butter with me as 2 mornings I had toast with peanut butter.
I am very thankful I brought some snacks (almonds, crackers, bran bars, peanuts)  with me as this helped with hunger when I couldn't find anything else to eat.  Next time I would definitely bring more items like applesauce, granola bars, protein shakes.

I was sick to my stomach a total of 3 times....not sure if it was from the food or eating to quickly.
Overall - I was down 1 pound when I returned home although have lost another 1 1/2 pound since returning in the last 3 days.

17 pounds.....Ok Lynette don't be so hard on yourself !!!!!!!
The weight loss has signficantly slowed down but I am still losing.

So on the PLUS side of things.....
I am no longer wearing plus size clothing and I am currently wearing a size 12 or 14, size Med or Large.
I have had to throw out or give away most of my pre-surgery clothing
I have had to throw out most of my pre-surgery underwear
I went for a professional bra fitting - I wear a size 38C.
I feel better about my appearance
I am down 59 pounds - and TWH would consider the surgery successful @ a 60 pound weight loss.
I am eating healthier
I am NOT eating junk food and have significantly reduced the amount of carb's I am eating on a daily basis

On the negative side of things.....
I am still considered obese according to the BMI which is not good for my overall health
I still have excess fat around my stomach area which is UGLY
I am not happy with the number on the scale ....my goal is to weigh 145 (although I would be happy @ 150).
