Larry Hobson, M.D., F.A.C.S I have met with my surgeon twice now.
He is pleasant and very informative. He spent time with me answering all my questions. He said he has done over 1000 procedures so far. He said on average he does three a day. My two meetings with him were only a week apart so we will see how he does over time. I am still waiting for surgery so I will have more to say afterwards I'm sure. His office staff is very pleasant, they call you by name and are easy to reach once you are accepted as a patient. They answer the phone and you can always get a live person to talk to, they always call you back when they say they will, which is very important to me. Their post op meeting was very helpful but it took all day between the Doctors class and exam and the hospital. The location leaves a lot to be desired, but thier seems to be adequate security. There is a lot of stress on after care and they even have a exercise facility and pool for use after surgery. Risks of surgery were addressed both by the doctor and also in the pre op class as well as extensive paper work which I was given to read and sign at pre op. I really can't fairly rate him and his staff yet since I have not had my surgery yet. I will add more after surgery and then after the after care program is in full swing. So far all is well!
It is Monday four days after surgery and I feel great. I must say I am very pleased with my care, Dr Hobson was wonderful and very reassuring before surgery. I have had no problems at all and would highly recommend him and his staff. I would also like to comment on Atlanta Medical Center... It is the best hospital I have ever been in. I was treated with respect and concern during my stay. Every where I went in the hospital I was greeted and asked if I needed anything. The nursing staff always promptly answered the call button and checked on me often. Everyone greeted me with a smile and great attitude, including the financial office, pre-op, radiology, transportation (the nice people who took me to and from.) The rooms are wonderful and bright and on the top floor with a beautiful view of Atlanta. Noisy when the Helicopter lands, but that only happen twice during my stay. There is a place for some one to sleep in the room with you if you like.
I was told by my family that the hospital food was very good, which is first for any hospital I have been in. I would highly recommend this Hospital, the staff is wonderful and very knowledgeable. I enjoyed my stay and felt like a well taken care of guest.

soon this will be
but a memory and you

Hi my name is Bernadette and I am having surgery on Jan 24, 2008 at Atlanta Medical Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
I am presently 257 lbs, hoping shortly to be 150 or so. I am having the lap RNY by Dr. Larry Hobson. OH I'M 53 AND HOPING TO GET YOUNGER BYAT LEAST 10 YEARS.
I am a 53 year old mother of five beautiful children with 1 grand-daughter and one on the way. My weight has filp floped many times through the years and topped out at 300 lbs. In my mid forties I managed to get to 135 lbs which is almost too thin for me, I stayed there for quite a while, but in order to do that I had to run 5 miles every day and work out at the gym for an hour a day. At the time I was a police officer and very active at work. As I changed to a different department my job changed and I gained some weight but still remained a size 10 or 12. In 2001 disaster hit and I fell while working and broke my right ankle, right arm and injured my neck. So there went all my ability to exercise and soom I was 2oo lbs, then 235, and so on untill I hit 300. In 2006 I fell again and broke both arm and permently messed up my right elbow. I have constant pain from my neck injury and now constant right arm pain as well as arthritus in the right ankle. Ofcourse over the years due to the weight gain I developed high blood pressure. Now I am totally disabled and find it hard to walk because of the ankle, I need to wear a air boot so the ankle won't collapse.
My surgery date is soon and I have been loosing weight since my last accident in 2006.
I am now 257 and hope I will be able to get down to 150 or so after surgery, but I am
afraid that my injuries will inhibit my weight loss since it will interfere with my exercise, I live in a small mountain town in North Georgia and their is no place to do
water exercise in the cold months because everything is outdoors. I am excited about
having surgery next week.
