Surgeon Testimonial

David Buchin, M.D.
I had my LapBand surgery on 10/22/08 with another surgeon. I wish with all my heart that even though it took 5 years of research, I had NOT used the surgeon I had chosen. After the day of my surgery I never saw him again. I had 2 years of fills and unfills by his PA's, restriction and no restriction. I lost a whopping 40 lbs and then regained half back...all the time throwing up and totally miserable. I felt like a total failure. My good friend that also was going through the same thing (with the same surgeon) decided to have VSG surgery with another surgeon. I was curious, but scared to death of another failure. She also had to have her band removed in a separate surgery before he would do the VSG. That was the one thing I was not on board with.
By some miracle, Dr. Buchin contacted her about her experience, and she told me about him. In their discussions, he told her he did the removal of the band and the VSG surgery in one operation. It was as if he was sent to her specifically for me. (At least that's the way I selfishly see it! LOL!)
I attended Dr. B's very next seminar and was hooked! Just the way he spoke to us and answered all the questions...I knew I was in the right place. Yes he was young, but he had 10 years of Bariatric surgery experience and excellent results. His compassion came across in his speaking, and I knew I would be making an appointment as soon as I could.
I had my consultation very quickly after that seminar. I was blown away by this man. He was so caring, compassionate, and took as much time as I could possibly need to go over everything regarding my revision. Even his packets and paperwork were informative and answered every single question one could possibly have. I left that office knowing I was about to start what I call the "second half" of my WLS journey.
I had my revision done on 8/17/11, and with the help of Dr. B and his amazing staff...Sophia, Helene, and Karla...I am doing better than I had ever hoped for!!! I attend their (free) Support Groups, and Dr. B is at every one of them. I publicly want to thank all of them from the bottom of my

I shouldn't have looked
on September 27, 2008 9:00 pm
So I am sitting here alone, which is very unusual, and stumble on the "Memorial" part of this site.  Now that I have totally freaked myself out by reading this, I have reached out in cyberspace and the response was so kind, I feel so loved...albeit from complete strangers.
We had a friend, oh going back @ 20years, that went for gastric bypass and died on the table.  I swore I would never let myself get to the point that I needed WLS.  {sigh}  I have said things like that my whole life...unfortunately they always come true.  I really gotta stop doing that!!!
I think that because I want this so badly and I don't want to fail once again, that is what freaked me out.  Of course death is a big part, and yes...most of the deaths were from RNY and back in the early 2000's...and my surgeon has never had a surgery related death...and I know all the statistics regarding lapband...I just had a little "blip" in my decision.
I am totally ready and as always, things will look better in the morning!

OT: I love this place!!
on September 20, 2008 7:42 am
So I go to the Oral Surgeon...this place is so great, I wish he was my real dentist!!  The people are lovely and caring, he is a doll, and it is such a good experience.  I go in and take an X-Ray.  Easy Peasy.  Talk to the receptionist and sign some paperwork.  Go into the room and talk to Dr. Hirsch.  They hook me up to a heart monitor (on my finger), a blood pressure cuff, pop in the IV and I am off to la la land.  The procedure took all of 20 mins.  No pain.  Felt a little woozy, but ok.  Got home and the bleeding stopped in about an hr.  Once the novacaine wore off I took my pain meds.  I would definately be a really bad drug addict, cause all I wanted to do was sleep.  Dr. Hirsh called @9:00 to find out how I was.  I am so impressed with them!!

OT:HOLY SWOLLEN WISDOM TOOTH BATMAN!!!
on September 18, 2008 3:00 pm
I have never had anything like this before.  I am so misrable, so I call the dentist (which I so love~NOT) and say I need an emergency appointment...the girl says  "I can give you Sat at 11:00"(WTF!!!!!!!) so I said for an amergency???  So the snotty witch says "Well you could wait until October"  needless to say I wanted to knock the crap outa her!  So the next morning my gums are swollen ABOVE the tooth and I call and beg to get me in.  I had a 2:15 appt...he took one look at it and said I am not even going to physically touch this...you need antibiotics and an Oral Surgeon.  So the (nice one) receptionist calls the oral surgeon and I have an appt for Friday @10:30.  Can you just imagine if I waited until Sat????

on September 17, 2008 4:30 pm
Well it's official...I got my insurance letter in the mail.  I knew it would be approved, but there is always this little niggling doubt.  I am relieved, excited and nervous all at the same time!!!
