Surgeon Testimonial

David Buchin, M.D.
I had my LapBand surgery on 10/22/08 with another surgeon. I wish with all my heart that even though it took 5 years of research, I had NOT used the surgeon I had chosen. After the day of my surgery I never saw him again. I had 2 years of fills and unfills by his PA's, restriction and no restriction. I lost a whopping 40 lbs and then regained half back...all the time throwing up and totally miserable. I felt like a total failure. My good friend that also was going through the same thing (with the same surgeon) decided to have VSG surgery with another surgeon. I was curious, but scared to death of another failure. She also had to have her band removed in a separate surgery before he would do the VSG. That was the one thing I was not on board with.
By some miracle, Dr. Buchin contacted her about her experience, and she told me about him. In their discussions, he told her he did the removal of the band and the VSG surgery in one operation. It was as if he was sent to her specifically for me. (At least that's the way I selfishly see it! LOL!)
I attended Dr. B's very next seminar and was hooked! Just the way he spoke to us and answered all the questions...I knew I was in the right place. Yes he was young, but he had 10 years of Bariatric surgery experience and excellent results. His compassion came across in his speaking, and I knew I would be making an appointment as soon as I could.
I had my consultation very quickly after that seminar. I was blown away by this man. He was so caring, compassionate, and took as much time as I could possibly need to go over everything regarding my revision. Even his packets and paperwork were informative and answered every single question one could possibly have. I left that office knowing I was about to start what I call the "second half" of my WLS journey.
I had my revision done on 8/17/11, and with the help of Dr. B and his amazing staff...Sophia, Helene, and Karla...I am doing better than I had ever hoped for!!! I attend their (free) Support Groups, and Dr. B is at every one of them. I publicly want to thank all of them from the bottom of my

Unfill
on June 25, 2009 9:30 am
I called the Dr. and was told to come right in.  I saw the PA that I like(and didn't see last fill).  She said that I shouldn't have gotten the .3cc's last time to begin with.  She even said that at my next appt in 3 weeks they may even have to take more out if I am still having trouble.  It's all about trial and error.  And learning to eat the Bandster way!!!  So we shall see!

To Unfill or not to unfill...
on June 24, 2009 5:23 pm
I am thinking I might need a small unfill.  I got my last fill 2 weeks ago, and even though I have no prob drinking, no reflux, etc., I have been PB'ing once or twice a day.  At first I thought I was eating too fast and the pieces were too big.  I am thinking that now I am a little too tight.  This can't be good for my band.
I will call Dr. Geiss in the AM.

My Daughter Yelled At Me, But It's OK!
on June 15, 2009 5:53 am
Yesterday I had to find something to wear to a ceremony for my son to accept his scholarships, as he is graduating HS.  I was trying on clothes from my closet, and my DD was getting so mad at me because all my good clothes were way too big!!  I really couldn't see what she saw, and after trying on almost all of the clothes that I love and save for important events, (not for work), there was barely anything left!  I had a top from my mom that I didn't think I would be able to wear...size 2x...and that is exactly what I wore to the ceremony!!  This is so unbelieveable to me...going from a size 4x to a 2x.  I looked in the mirror and finally could see the changes.  It was a little weird to accept.  But I am a happy girl!!  Now if the scale would only reflect what is happening, I would be thrilled!!!

Fill #6 and Hurray for Liquids!!
on June 13, 2009 5:45 am
So I got to see Stabby Thursday.  She is sure long winded!!  After yammering away, I got a small fill.  So I did the full liquids for the rest of the day and mushies the next.  And now I am down 2lbs.  Finally outta the 330's!!!  Hopefully I can start using my WiiFit!!!  As long as it weighs me the same as my scale, we are good to go!!!!!

I am thinking the best way to break a plateau is go back to full liquids.  Torture yes, but it jump starts things moving again.  So I am thinking I will do this whenever the scale starts the up and down shuffle again.  We'll see what happens.  Maybe this fill will help also.  The question is will I ever find my sweet spot??
