David Jenkins I met with Dr. Jenkins for the first time today.
He was very friendly, and had a lot of information to provide. I had heard good things about him already, and visiting with him confirmed it all. They were very professional but laid back at the same time. His staff was also very impressive. He addressed pre op information, aftercare information - such as ongoing nutrition or support classes. Overall I would rate him very high. When asked which is more important in a physician - bedside manner or competence - I would have to say that surgical competence is much more important, although bedside manner really helps a patient feel more connected with his/her physician. This team impresses me in both aspects. Dr. Jenkins and Major California work very well together to create a feeling of ease while introducing important information.
Update: Dr. Jenkins is now retired from the Air Force. I dont know if he plans on practicing medicine privately or not. He will be missed! I feel so blessed that our paths crossed when they did.
So glad to have found this site! I am a 37 year old stay at home mom of 3 sons. We are an Air Force family, stationed in the Florida Panhandle. I love it here....and hate going to the beach in a bathing suit! I was raised in Miami, Florida and putting on a bathing suit has always been a downer for me. I love the ocean but am uncomfortable in my skin. Not a good feeling. I have been overweight for most of my life. Oddly enough I started out really small. My mother had my pediatrition put me on some medication to stimulate appetite when I was around 4 because I was so small. I guess back in the day that was an accepted treatment! I told my mom It worked. I havent stopped eating since! Seriously I doubt that had/has anything to do with my weight issues. Its just a running joke in our family. Well, at this point in my life I am approaching 40, have high blood pressure and am at a high risk for developing diabetes. My father has diabetes, and no feeling in one of his feet. I am a clone of my father - from my looks to my health - to my body shape. If I was a man I would be sporting quite the beer belly. But, since I am a woman who has carried three 10 pound baby boys I can blame part my flab on that instead. But, the real reason is my over eating. Always a reason to celebrate with food! I am going to have to re - learn a lot of things. Primarily how to Eat to LIVE instead of live to EAT. I pray that this surgery will allow me to free myself of 80 pounds that are wearing me out - emotionally, physically and spiritually!
