Monday is your day! Just remember you are on the journey of a lifetime. Try to enjoy every minute. It may sound weird now, but know that you are cared for and prayed for here, and all too soon this will be but a memory and you will be an inspiration to someone else. I am waiting for you on the losers' bench!

1 year post op!
on September 15, 2008 1:18 pm
Incredible. I cannot believe that a year has passed! my baby is due in 3 weeks-2 October, and I can't wait! i've been eating a lot lately, and am hoping to loose my remaining weight quickly after the pregnancy. I lost 12kg and gained 11kg again during my pregnancy, but to be honest, i have not been following any diets throughout!

well, good luck to you all!

Interesting times!

Hi everyone!

I can't believe I haven't been in here for so long!

Weight loss up to now: -95 pounds!!

I'm down 6 clothing sizes and I feel great! Also, I found out that i'm pregnant-was in shock for a week, but am 3 months along now and i feel wonderful.  Having had the surgery only 5 months before falling pregnant, i really thought it would cause problems, Doc only instructed me to double up on the calcium and get a Vit B12 injection every month.  i've also lost around 19.8 pounds of the 95 since falling pregnant!

Have you noticed how impossible it is to describe to people how much the surgery has meant to you?  I want to cry when i think about it.  i'm comfortable in my body-the first time in my life!!!

lots of love,
m

Hi all! It's been almost two weeks since the surgery and I feel great, except for being a bit hungry-I need real food! i'm suppposed to be on liquids for 28 days post op, but i don't think i can wait that long. I think i'll start experimenting with purees.

Finally!! Almost one week out
on September 15, 2007 10:26 am
Hi all, I cannot describe the angst I experienced until the morning of 10 September when my doc gave me the final ok for the op!! I lost 10.7 kgs (23.6 lbs) and already felt amazing for it!

They only pushed me into theatre after 17:00 -op was scheduled for 14:30, but anyway! When they woke me up in the recovery room, i thought i was dying, my chest was so heavy and they had an oxygen mask on my face too. I tried to keep my eyes open 'cause i was convinced that i would die if i fell asleep! ha ha, anyhow, i survived and the nurses, my family/friends and prof Heine took excellent care of me!

It was very uncomfortable the first few days, but I'm not someone who can lie in bed all day and i was so cheery etc that the hospital staff told me that i am not allowed so many visitors and that i was walking too much! anyway, i'm ok now and have already lost 3.4kg (7.5 lbs) since the op.

I am never hungry, I'm happy and am looking forward to finally living!

Thanks to everyone who has supported me throughout this process, I love you all!

My Story

Let's start with all the boring stuff, I'm 28 years old, have a 10 month old son and have been married for less than 2 years.  I have been overweight since I was 4  years old and even though I was very active, the weight just kept on piling on. At 20 years old I was diagnosed with Insulin Resistance as well as Policystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS).  Luckily for me I fell pregnant within a month after we decided to at least try.

WLS is my only option at this stage, I can't keep up with my crawling baby, I don't want my husband to see what my body looks like under all my baggy clothes, and I don't want to go out in public anymore.  I am plagued by extreme backpain, headaches and fatigue.
