Surgeon Testimonial

Alejandro Aguirre M.D.
My first impression of Dr. Aguirre was that he seemed very calm and kind. He wanted to make sure that I felt comfortable with the upcoming surgery and explained everything that would happen. I definately gained confidence in Dr. Aguirre throughout my stay in Ensenada. The staff was wonderful. Everyone involved took really good care of me. There was not any aspect that I did not like about Dr. Aguirre. He was and continues to be wonderful and attentive. Because of the distance involved there is no ongoing aftercare although he did give me extensive instructions on how to eat and advised me on how to deal with food long term. Dr. Aguirre was very frank about the risks and possible complications involved with the surgery. He also was very frank concerning his complications and mortality rate. I appreciated his honesty and felt like he was the best surgeon for me. I would rate him as an excellent surgeon with an excellent bedside manner,(exceptionally better than an rnAmerican Dr.) he has taken wonderful care of me.

4 months out and update
on December 5, 2007 8:10 am

I think I'm finding that the journey is really just beginning with the surgery. I'm just now really starting to drop sizes. So fast even that I can't keep interview clothes that fit! I've been looking for a new job for months now. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I will have one by January. something tells me I am still being discriminated against because I'm overweight. It's really disgusting to me that employers do that.

My hair has begun to fall out. i thought I would get by without that happening but alas....out it comes in handfuls. This week hasn't been a particularly good week. i have had diarrhea for 3 days now and it sucks. But on the bright side I have probably lost 10 pounds this week. So far this surgery has turned out far better than I expected.

I really expected to be vomiting daily, hair falling out, diarrhea everytime I eat something and just generally looking sick for the first year. Although it took me awhile to recover from the open procedure I was more tired and fatigued than anything else. The pain wasn't even what I expected. I have not thrown up once since surgery and and can eat just about anything as long as it's in small quantities. I just happen to have a virus this week but I have far less stomach issues now than I did pre-op. On top of all of that, I have lost about 75 lbs now! Go me!

I love my RNY!

a little over two weeks post op
on August 30, 2007 11:52 am
I'm going to try to update more often now that I'm feeling somewhat more energetic. Once I got home from Ensenada I had no energy at all. I have been spending my days resting, walking, drinking water and resting.

A couple of days ago I started being very intentional about getting in more protein and I am already feeling much better. I still get tired easily but I don't feel completely wiped out.  I'm going to have to get on M.V.'s site and get some of those great protein shake recipes. Protein shakes are not my favorite.

I still have no regrets about doing this or doing it in Mexico. However, I can't express how bad I would like to have a thin crust, meatlovers pizza with jalapenos. I would even settle for a chicken sandwhich from Wendy's. But I guess that's how I got myself to this point and when I lose some more weight I will get over those cravings.

To date I have lost 22 pounds. The scale hasn't moved in about a week so I'm looking forward to weighing even less soon!

Tomorrow is the big day!
on August 13, 2007 10:05 pm

My surgery is tomorrow morning! I am ready to do this. I went to my pre-op appointment with Dr. Aguirre this afternoon. He was really nice and explained everything and even answered 2 pages of questions that i had! hahaha. then I had blood taken, peed in the cup and all that good stuff.

I'm very nervous but I think I would be even if I had done it in the states. All I want in life is to be happy and healthy and if this is how I have to get there then so be it. I go back and forth still from total peace to mild anxiety. grrrr. If only I could have a few margaritas!

So, that is all for now. I will update when I am back in the apartment and feel up to it!

Hi, my name is Amanda and I am 25 years old from Texas. I have scheduled my surgery for August 14th with Dr. Aguirre. I would love to hear about other experiences with Dr. Aguirre and I would also love to hear from anyone who will be there around the same time as me!
