Hello all! I am a 50 year old gramma with 14 grandkids, the joys of my life. (After my husband of 30 years, of course!) And I guess our 4 children rate right up there, too. I am postmaster in a small town in central Iowa. Besides grandkids, my passion is portrait photography, which usually just happens to involve the grandkids! I am hoping to have Lapband surgery to improve my health, and my ability to enjoy and spend time with my family.

Wow, this is new to me!
on January 14, 2007 2:11 pm
I have never written on a blog, this is a bit strange. I don't like calling attention to myself (years of wanting to blend into the woodwork, I guess). I am serious about getting this surgery and getting my health back, so I will bite the bullet. (Is it chocolate?)
Today I decided to get brave and join this forum, I have really enjoyed reading it. I want to get comfortable with being a part of it so that when I am in a desparate state, I won't be too shy to scream for help!
Today I also decided to FORCE myself to exercise, and to start eating healthier. I have been so tired lately that I can't take it. So, here's to me!!!

My Story

I believe I was even overweight in the womb, so I guess I don't recall ever being thin. I was somewhat unhappy and embarrased as a child, being the fattest one in the class. I compensated by being nice to everyone, even the ones who didn't deserve it. I also learned to use humor to hide behind my hurt feelings. I do enjoy humor, though, and it has helped me through some really tough times, not all weight-related. I think I also tried to always see the bright side, so my childhood wasn't always miserable. I have been very overweight my adult life, gaining more weight with each pregnancy and not losing after. I did lose 90+ pounds two different times using herbal shakes, but you just can't live on those forever. As soon as I was tired of them, the pounds came back like gangbusters! (I sure hope the insurance company counts that as dieting, I have never been on a doctor monitored diet)

Now I find myself as heavy as ever, and starting to have some health issues. I need to get control over my obesity or it will start seriously affecting my health. I am too young to get those problems.

I am a sugar addict, and do major emotional eating, and I guess saying it here helps me accept the reality. I am excited about the Lapband, and love reading this forum. I am ready to join in, so here's "a kiss for luck and we're on our way..."
