My Story  I am 34 1/2 years old and I had been over weight since 1995, I started gaining all the weight during and after my sons pregnancy, being that I have Systemic Lupus Nephritis, my pregnancy was a surprise. But was very high risk. My son only weighed 1 pound 2 1/2ounces and I gained 110 pounds. I was pure liquid and was so swollen, to add to my illness I became a justational diabetic and had preclampsia also. I was on very high doses of Prednisone and was an in-patient in Jackson Memorial Hospital for 3 months. I was out for 1 day then admitted the other, and I was able to attend my baby shower, but was admitted the following day and was not out again until 1 month after my sons arrival. I was very depressed and I went from a size 5-6(120lbs) to a size 22(238lbs). I have huge purple stretch marks, and I had not even one before. My son has Cerebral Palsy, but thank god he can speak both spanish and english. He still can't walk,but I am working on that little by little, I take him to 4 therapies a week. Gastric-Banding was the best decision that I've ever made. I fell wonderful, I can't say that I am 100% good, because I do have Lupus and all of the luggage the comes with it. But now I can walk an entire mall and before I would have to sit and rest. Now I weigh 120lbs. and this is what I weighed when I was a teenager and I fit into my gym shorts and that to me is very up-lifting. Life is great and my surgeon, Dr. De La Cruz-Munoz is fantastic, I highly recommend him to everyone.    |
