My name is Marla. I am a 35 yo sahm living in central NJ. My husband and I have 6 children. I decided to have this surgery after a lifelong journey of always being the fat lady. I don't want to "watch" the kids grow and never be able to be a more active part of their lives. I have always been fat ever since I can remember. I was always embarrassed in elementary school to get weighed with the other kids. I was never able to participate fully in the whole school experience because of the weight. I wanted to go back to college only to discover that sitting in that little desk was quite a challenge. I would go to class super early so that no one had to watch me squeeze into that desk. Once there that is where I stayed until the end of that class. My bladder would wait, I wasn't letting everyone see me squeeze back in. I stopped going to school when I got pregnant because I feared no longer fitting into the desk. I would love to go back, and now I will. I want to lose probably alot more than I actually will. I want to get down to 150, but I think I could be quite satisfied at closer to 200. I had this surgery to change my life, change all of our lives. This is gonna be the beginning of a new life for us.

Two months out
on June 10, 2007 5:33 pm
I am now two months out and wow has it been a ride. I am down 61.6lbs. That completely amazes me. To lose that much weight that quickly. I am learning how to eat and how to live. I really feel like a different person. I enjoy chasing the baby around the park and usually I can keep up. I am down 2 pant sizes and boy did I buy some new clothes for the cruise. I am really hoping to be down by 100 pounds by the 6 month point, (or at least close to that) I am so thankful that things are working out so well so far and I can only hope that this sucess will continue. I am so grateful for all the positive words from my friends here at OH.

Getting Through
on April 24, 2007 5:05 am
My surgery date was 4-9-07. I had the rou en y bypass. Today I am 2 weeks post op and still feeling the pain to some degree. I ended up with an infection in one of the sites and I am still battling that. I was hoping that by this point I would be feeling better. My surgeon had indicated that some people go back to work after 2 weeks which apparently gave me the false hope that I might be able to be back to somewhat normal by now. I have days when I definitely wonder what have I gotten into, but I know that it will be worth it in the end! My pre op weight was 351.6. I am down to 317.4 as of Saturday. That is more than 34 pounds in 2 weeks. For that I am so happy. My first real goal is to be able to buy new clothes for a vacation that we are going on in June. I don't see that being too much of a problem. I am hoping to be able to join a gym soon. After all this pain I need to make this work for me! I go back to the surgeon today for a wound check! I'm hoping that he thinks that I have been improving.
