Surgeon Testimonial

Andrew Duffy, M.D.
Dr. Andrew Duffy is the best!!! He is with Yale University Bariatric Surgeons - a center for excellence and he is in with Dr. Robert Bell. I went to the seminar on 12/8/06 and listened attentively to all they had so say. Needless to say when Dr. Duffy presented I just knew that this is the guy I was looking for to do my surgery - he knew his stuff and he was kind and sensitive to my questions. I was getting frustrated because I could not get an appointment for my psych eval prior to 1/07 and he was kind enough to give me the name of Mark Gaynor, LCSW and I got an appointment right away. My paperwork was all complete and in Dr. Duffy's office by 1/2/07. Since I did not get a call with an appointment by 1/3/07, the very next day, I decided to e-mail Dr. Duffy on our Groupwise system that we use at Yale and I said \"I am hoping God places it in your heart to read this e-mail - I need a date!!!\" and he read it - I got a call with a date four days after. I feel confident and I know that I made the right decision. The staff is great, Jane, his nurse manager was great - she had R&Y a couple years ago and looks great and she used to work as an OR nurse where I work which is part of Yale too.

Another goofy creation...
posted on 6/4/12 7:40 am
Since I don't have much to bring to the table I bring the best I have ... GOOFY creativity - it works (sometimes) LOL ... for any who may be interested...

DRAIN COVERS!!! yup ...easy peasy and quite appealing to some ... like myself ...who had drains post panniculectomy in for close to six weeks ... even to go out on the deck or sit in the patio ... I wanted to cover these suckers that kept on draining... and draining .... and oh my! I went back to work 2 days after my panniculectomy ...that was done right across the way from my department ... I got to get up and get into the car and go home ... and I came back to work ... 3 days after ... if I took one or two percocets post op they were too many for I ONLY took the pain meds when the drains were removed and I developed seromas and a hematoma that needed to be drained in the office without anesthesia ... but I was fine .... and today ... I am looking for the scar that has healed so nicely that I can't even see it ... I used H. Aspersa crema de baba de caracoles (snail serum) on it ... I used the H. Aspersa line ... same as I use at night on my face ... and it worked wonders for me...  but I am off on a tangent ...

What brings me to the drain covers? I spent some time yesterday evening making some awesome drain covers for a friend who is having plastics done today ... WOOT ... another goofy creation for those interested ...

1. fold fabric and cut a rectangular piece leaving the fold for the base...
2. with right sides together and sew 1/4" seams along two sides...
3. turn and hem top leaving an 1/2" opening at one side and sew hem wide enough to fit ribbon or roping of choice...
4. stick hand inside pouch and pull the base outward to turn it right side out ...
5. attach safety pin to piece of ribbon ... push pin and ribbon through top opening ... drop drain inside pouch and draw strings ... and tie a loose bow...

I shared this collage back in 2008 .... my pannus ... my panniculectomy and me making and placing my drain covers on ...

I have been sewing for years .... YUP I have proof.... I made so many prom dresses/wedding gowns/quinceañera gowns  for friends and others and awesome suits for myself but not as many nor as often as I love to sew for myself now .... I love love love shopping for awesome fabrics and my fave place is MOOD fabrics in NY.... AND I love love love to decorate bassinets .... I did and do them still before and after...

I decided as I started losing weight not to spend another 0 on a dress form ... instead I made a duct tape dress form to my size .... every 2-3 sizes down till the one I have now ... I got the idea off the Internet ... goofy duct tape dress forms ... there are tons of instructions ... and I cut and sew and fit to the dress form ... when I put on the dress it is a perfect fit for my size .... now that I am in maintenance and I now my sizing which I won't allow to fluctuate in inches I think it is time that I will invest in a real dress form ... I think it will be my last gift to myself before going back home...

Have a wonderful day ALL ....

Snacking on an apple and sharing my journal entry today ... A Picture a day Keeps the Pounds and the Inches Away ... it is a goofy tool that works for me ...

Another chance to make TODAY a better day!!! I for one am jumping on all opportunities today has to offer.... IT IS A NEW DAY!!!! With busy hands and a bit of creativity I am rocking my journey ... and having fun ... even when sometimes life throws me lemons... I am taking life's lemons and  I am making virgin SF Margaritas.... I am embracing joy over misery ONE.DAY.AT.A.TIME....
