Surgeon Testimonial

Muhammad A. Jawad, M.D.
Dr. Jawad was very professional. He takes his work seriously and I have total confidence in his abilities. My surgery went great and I have had no complications. I am progressing wonderfully and give much of the credit to Dr. Jawad and his skill at the laparoscopic RNY. His office staff is terrific. They answer all questions - no matter how many you have! He is very serious about having a g-tube after the rny, and it is non-negotiable. I understand the reasons why and have no issues with his decision regarding that. He has a structured aftercare program. He definitely addressed the risks of surgery and went through possible complications and detailed his complication rates. They were low. In part because of the emphasis on the aftercare. I think his surgical competence is probably better than his bedside manner, but I found him pleasant and very nice and professional. However, the surgical skills just overshadow everything else.

2 weeks out
on August 12, 2007 8:02 pm
Tomorrow will be 2 weeks since my RNY.  Hard to believe.  I am off the pain meds - though am still having some back pain from my g-tube.  I go back to work tomorrow.  Probably will work half days for a couple days and build back up.  Will see how my energy level is.  I am walking every day.  Today I walked 1.62 miles on the treadmill.  I am definitely having some head hunger these days - and people eating things on tv really make me salivate.  I am going to talk with a nutritionist and get some help with the head hunger.  2 weeks and I get off the liquid diet and start on soft/mushy food.   I am very glad this week is over - it entailed a broken air conditioner, leaving my house to get heat relief and very little weight loss at my week post op appointment.  Since then, my A/C has been fixed and my scale has dropped about 10 pounds since last Monday.  So i am in a better frame of mind for sure!

On the flip side

Well I had my surgery three days ago.  I feel pretty good considering Dr. Jawad was great, and I had total confidence in his abilities.  I am so glad I chose to go with him.  The folks I've met through OH and through Dr. Jawad's support group who had surgery the day I did, or the next day all were doing great too.  I started full liquids today and put Unjury in some pudding for lunch and some cream of chicken/chicken broth soup for dinner.  For breakfast I mixed an Unjury shake.  So I got in 60 grams of protein today!  Woohoo!  So far I have sipped my way through 40 oz of water.  I also had 2 sf popsicles, and am counting those as 2 oz of water - so while 44 oz. is not the suggested 64oz, it is a step in the right direction.  I hope the protein I ate today will make a big difference in my energy and how I feel tomorrow.  So far the emotions have not hit me - but I have been forewarned if it happens!
