Surgeon Testimonial

Leslie McClellan, M.D.
Dr McClellan is professional, caring, supportive. At my initial consult we had a lengthy discussion about what the best surgical option would be for me. She did not seem rushed, answered all my questions and gave me the information I needed to make this very important decision. The office staff was courteous and helpful. I especially appreciate knowing I will have their support after surgery. I have talked with other people that have had gastric bypass surgery and did not get much follow up or support. I think to be successful, I will need support. Being overweight has plenty of risks by itself so I was not so concerned about the surgical risks. I think any doctor needs surgical competence and a good bedside manner and I think I found it with Dr McClellan.

Doing much better...finally!
I am feeling so much better I hardly remember how yucky I felt! I'm about to the point that I can say I'm glad I had the surgery.  I'm down over 50 pounds now from where I started after vacation in May and I feel wonderful.  I walk everyday for 2.6 miles with my husband, he helps me go faster!  I'm a little flabby in areas but it will be okay!  I hope everyone has a great weekend!  I'm going to Wisconsin to the lake and can't wait to show off my new body!

I did not throw up yesterday or today...hooray!  We had a great time at the zoo, ate a little and walked a lot!  My nephew got me to ride that overhead ride and I am scared to death of heights, but I love him so I went!  Good thing I lost some weight otherwise I probably really would have had a heart attack.  Hope you all have a great weekend!

When do the "foamies" stop???
on August 12, 2008 5:41 pm
I have been puking almost everyday for a week.  Things I could previously eat are not settling well.  I hardly eat during the day at work because I'm afraid I'll spend the next hour in the bathroom throwing up.  I don't actually throw up food, it's just mucous and spit.  I am so jealous of Big Murph, to have a little something different...Ahhhh.  Cottage cheese and watermelon, some canned type peaches and an occasional popsicle, maybe some soup. That's it.  It's great for my weight though.   At support group they said 6 months, please God, don't let it be that long. I'll have to get some new pictures up because you can really see a difference now.  41.5 lbs more to go!  Read ya later!

Support group
on August 6, 2008 7:45 pm
I went to support group tonight and I met some nice people who, like all the people reading this, know exactly what I'm going through.  I occasionally throw up this mucous-like stuff and they had a name for it!  I thought something horrible was going on in there and they all said they knew exactly what I was talking about and that it stops at about 6 months out.  That was helpful information!  Jean led the group and there ended up being 5 of us total.  A little better outcome than when Melissa went.  We had before and after pics.

My weight is coming off much slower now, but still 2-3 lbs a week.  The inches though...22+ so far!  I feel bad that I actually had almost two feet to lose already and am far from done.  Actually had to buy some new clothes because my girls complained to my husband that I looked terrible in my now "too big" clothes.  Good Will is gonna love me.  I'm working 13 hrs tomorrow and need to pack some food to take so I'll read ya all later!  Keep losing and have a great rest of the week.

Mostly better now
on July 25, 2008 9:47 pm
I'm mostly better now.  I have no idea what it was and I could not even tie my shoes for a couple of days but it is resolving and I cannot wait to get going on some ab work.  I feel like everything is shrinking but my tummy, although I measure every week and know I've lost about 4-5 inches in my waist!  I hope everyone has a nice weekend.  My husband's family reunion is this weekend so we'll be very busy having fun.

My Story

My name is Mary and I have been overweight since having my first daughter in 1989.  Before then I was a petite girl, weighing 110-120.  I did not have to watch my weight then but looking back I walked to and from school, played basketball for hours on end for fun, hiked in the parks w/ my boyfriend (who is now my husband of nearly twenty years!).

I have tried several weight-loss programs, and while I am good at losing the weight, I always seem to find it again.  Of course every time you regain the weight you are bigger and bigger and now it is time to stop!  I cannot wait to find my old self under all this fluff.  Everyone thinks I do not need anything as drastic as surgery as I am not "that big".  The diabetes is bad enough  but the sleep apnea really did me in...I cannot stand to wear the CPAP.  And the fact I actually needed it and it really made a difference bothers me immensely.  That is why I am having WLS, to get rid of the health issues.
