I have not seen the surgen yet but I do know it will be doctor Cook in Hickory NC, I will update when I finally get to see him!rnrnUPDATE: Feb/06/07rnrnI met my surgen for the first time today it was in a group meeting, there he told us how he will be doing the surgery and what all we had to do and exspect to happen, It all sounded good except for the 10 day Slim-Fast diet. For 10 days before the surgery he wants us to have nothing but Slim-Fast, NO food at all!rnThe next time I meet my surgen it will be a one on one just me and him! As for the surgen he acted like he will be a good one and he seems to care about all his patients, a little older of a man than I would want to operate on me but I guess the older the better they are!rnrnFeb/ 16/ 07rnrnThe weight loss clinic called today and told me the surgen was going over my chart and wanted me to start a pre-op diet of one low carb meal aday and slim fast the rest of the day, but they also told me that there was no history in my medical records showing where I have been on a diet for 6 months or more in a row. Well to make the story short I will have to diet 6 months under a doctors care before the surgery now! If I lose 50 pounds or more then why do I need to have the surgery?rnrnMarch 16 2007rnWell I did lose 10 pounds as of today and the weight loss clinic called today and said I was ready to start to the next level so I got a date on April 3rd to go in and do my lab work and see the surgen one last time before my surgery, I hope they will give me a surgery date on the 3rd.

I want to let everyone know if you are looking into this surgery well good luck because I'm having trouble in finding a hospital and surgen who will accept medicare, you see there is this new goverment bill that is making hospitals have a seal of excellence before they can perfom the surgery on medicare people like me. I finally found one hospital that has the seal close to my home but after spending 300.00 dollars and putting time in going for test after test with several doctors I find out the surgens that do the operation at this hospital are not in my insurance network. So now I think I'm right back to where I started and that is searching for another hospital and starting all over again. I wish these hospital's will work with people better but it seems like if you don't have the money in you're pocket to pay they do not want to help! I guess I will just keep getting bigger and finally die before I find someone who matches all the criteria for medicare. If someone has a answer to my problem please please let me know because my diabetes is running wild and I'm tired of talking the med's for it because it makes me sick at my stoumach. Another thing you need to find out if the hospital will do you at you're weight, some hospitals have a weight limit becasue of the operating table can only hold so much weight..

My Story

Well finally I go to my educational class on tuesday Feb-06-07 for 2-1/2 hours, they told me things will start to move a little more faster after the class. I had a complete physical and got to have a stress test done on Monday the 5th before the class then I got to go to the Lung doctor the day after the class will be on the 7th. Hopefully everthing will go alright, it is my family docotr putting me threw all the test's he want's to make sure everything is ok before I go under for the surgery. I will update my page when everything is over and I have more news on what is going to happen next!

 

UPDATE: Feb/05/07
I went to see the heart doctor and he was going to run a stress test on me but I WAS SO dehidrated thet he could not fine a vein to run a IV so he sent me home and told me to come back in a week to try again!

Feb/06/07
I went to Hickory for my educational class and I got to meet with the staff and they weighed me in and took all my measurements and insurance info, they had to have that LOL. I also got to meet he surgen as a group meeting he told us all about the surgery and what will happen that big day and answered some question wer had. They told us after it was over to go home now and wait on them to call with more dates and appointments.

Feb/07/07
I went to the Lung doctor this day to have my breathing checked before surgery, the man really put me threw the mill, I think that was the most I walked in a year LOL but all in all he gave me the green light and wished me the best of luck in my surgery!

Feb/12/07

I had my stress test done today and the doctor told me that my heart checked out great for a guy my size, I had to step up and down on these foot stools because he said I weighed to much for his tread mill. I told him that the reason why I was having the surgery was because I was tired of bastards like when telling me I'm too fat for this or too fat for that! But anyways all I got to do now is sit back and wait until all of my results are sent in and I get the phone call to go see the surgen and to set my surgery date. ALRIGHT I'm getting closer.

Feb/16/07

Well today the weight loss clinic called me and said the surgen was looking over my file and he wanted me to lose weight before I have my surgery, how crazy does that sound. They want me to only eat one low Cab meal a day and drink Slim-Fast the rest of the day, think about it a fat guy stop eating. It will be a crazy time in the old house for the next few weeks now! I thought I was bad when I quit smoking but now they want me to almost stop eating, well I'm going to give it a try I went out today and bought 50 bucks worth of Slim-Fast to start on my journey. I got to weigh in on March 6 to see how it is going so I will post more on that day. Wish me luck!

 

Feb/24/07

Bad news again today, the weight loss clinic called me again and told me that  my family doctor did not take the time to keep a record of me being on any diet. Well since Medicare wants people to show proof that you have been on a diet for atleast 6 months or longer under a doctors care that means I'm screwed... I will have to go to my doctor now and start all over again with him keeping a record of my weight loss or gain for the next 6 months before Medicare will approve me. I just dont know how the doctor will be able to keep track of how I'm doing when it was like the last time, he has no way to weigh me! His scale's only go to 350 pounds and I weigh 465 pounds, so that means I will have to lose 115 pounds before he can start logging in my weight. Well Medicare has really got me this time, they finally found a way to stop me or either slow me down from my surgery! I don't know what I'm going to do now... I guess I will keep sitting here at home and and let Medicare pay for all of my doctor bill's and medicine as my health gets worser and worser. If I could have had the surgery the doctor's told me my health would get better and I could even go back to work like a man again. But thanks to Medicare I will stay fat and on disability!

April /9/07

Well I finally went on April 3rd to Hickory for my first visit with my surgen, after a 1-1/2 hour drive there and a 45 minute wait until I was able to see him he spent about 10 minutes with me and told me I had to lose 63 pounds before he would do the surgery. This guy is the only one close to me where I can go and now he tells he he wont do it until!!! I tols him I have never lost that much weight at one time in my entire life, but no good he said I'm sorry but that is the way it is so I told him well you really just told me I cant have the surgery EVER! I got 3 weeks to try and lose some weight and call him back and let him know how I did, hopefuly I can lose some or enough to where he will do it. I will post more when I find out more, so please everyone hope and pray I can do something.


August 3, 2007

Well my time is finally here I got my surgery date and it will be on August 27 of 2007, I go for my Pre-Op on the 16th and I hope everything comes out well. If there is anyone who can offer me a few clothing items I really need them because I have already lost 35 pounds getting ready and Im finding my cloths are getting to big for me now!
