1 Month Update
on October 22, 2007 1:22 pm
Well actually 1 month and 2 days....I am down 27 lbs since surgery....and 42 since the pre-op diet 6 weeks ago.  Weighing in at 328...still alot..but better than where I was.  It's also nice to know that I will never see the 340's...330's and soon the 320's again!  I've been slack posting and updating...weeks 2-3 were rough...felt pretty weak and tired...started mushies week 3 and that really helped.  More calories and protein make all the difference in the beginning.  Now into week 5...I am still keeping it pretty mild..I don't try many normal foods...sticking with grits, cottage cheese, refried beans, baked beans...soups...etc....

1 week Post Surgery
on September 27, 2007 6:21 am
Well I have finally gotten around to posting an update.  Today is 1 week post surgery..down 8 lbs..that is 23 total with the pre-op diet...346 today!  Recovery is going good....a little sore..a little tired...but overall doing well.  I am pretty tired on the clear liquids...hard to get enough protein...the ISOPURE protein water I try to drink each day is pretty awful....I could get them down pre-surgey by gulping....can't gulp now!  Looking foward to tomorrow and whole liquids...soups....protein shakes...MD

Less than 24 hours!
on September 19, 2007 8:22 am
I get on a plane in a few hours and I am off to San Antonio..then down to Eagles Pass...tomorrow morning..over the border to see Dr. Alvarez.  Surgery I am guessing sometime tomorrow late morning.  Day 8 of liquids...it has gone ok...I have dropped about 3.5 more lbs since Saturday....hoping to be 355 tomorrow on surgery day.  I fly back home Saturday afternoon and hope to be watching college football from my recliner that evening!

I'm hopeful to be back at work on Monday,....just taking Thursday/Friday off....I am a college professor and will just try to make my classes...no office time or anything,....classes and home to rest.  I am hoping for the best in recovery....little sickness, etc....

I'll post again in a few days!  wish me luck!

Well...looks like a good place to start....surgery is this Thursday..just 5 days away....been on the pre-op liquid diet since Wednesday...it has been going ok....down about 9 pounds since last weekend.  My stomach doesn't feel all that great most of the time...but I know it will be a few rough weeks.

My Story

Not sure where to begin...guess we will go with the basics....I'm obese!  I am a big and tall guy, 6'6 and began this process at 368 pounds....today...day 4 of liquids..5 days before surgery I am 359...shooting for 355 on surgery day.  I just recently turned 41 (Aug 29) an have been thinking about WLS for a while.  I've been going back and forth between the lapband and sleeve....moved my surgery date about 3 times and have finally settled on the sleeve.  I think it is the best fit for me.  My wonderful wife had the lapband in March with Dr. Alvarez, she is down about 55 pounds at this time.  It helps alot with both of us going through this...we can support eachother.  I see Dr. Alvarez on Thursday - Sept 20, 2007....the start of my new life.  I mentioned my wife, we are closing in on our 10 year anniversary..and have 3 great kids, ages 9, 7 and 3....another reason for these life changing surgeries....show a good healthy lifestyle and choices for our kids.   My goal is to get into the 250's....my wife says the 240's...we shall see how it goes!
