Surgeon Testimonial

Kenneth G. MacDonald, Jr. M.D.
I've only met Dr. McDonald once, when he did mine and my sisters' Endoscopy. He was really nice and made me feel comfortable and answered all the questions I had before being put to sleep. Me and my sister will meet with him August 11, 2008 to get my surgery date and I will add more then!!rnrn8/11/08rnMe and my fiance' (support partner) along with my twin sister and our closest homegirl (support partner) met with Dr. McDonald this morning. While he is very direct he answered ALL questions we had and emphasized all what could and could not happen during and after surgery. He even saw me and my sister together to make it easier on our support partners. He's very knowledgeable on Gastric Bypass and my fiance' definitely approved. He said he was respectable and truthful about everything. He even made time to see my sister this afternoon when she needed some clarification on another issue. Very dedicated and so far I have nothing negative to say about him or Southern Surgical.

Hi all, I'm Shawnte.  At 25 I've been overweight all my life and have come to the reality that I want to be healthy by age 30 and having the RNY will help me achieve my goal.  My twin sister is doing the surgery with me, thus I have a great support system and we are so excited about what our future will now entail.

3 Months Out
on December 9, 2008 6:17 am
Well I know it's been awhile since I last posted up here but I have lost 81 pounds so far!!!!  I weighed on yesterday and now weigh 284 and I truly feel great!  I need to exercise more but work and wedding planning has definitely taken a big portion of my free time away.  Not counting I will start teaching classes online in the Spring.  This surgery has been a life saver and I have been truly blessed to not have any serious issues happen to me or my sister since we've had the surgery.  God is truly awesome!!!  It's amazing how he sets things up and finishes them out unlike us at times.  But I just wanted to update everyone and pray everyone enjoys their holidays.

One Month Post Op
on October 6, 2008 8:10 am
Well it's been one month since my RNY Surgery and I'm doing well.  Still trying to get my energy level back to what it has been before.  Getting up and being at work by 8am is almost impossible because I feel so drained in the morning.  But once I'm up and moving, my energy is incredible!  I haven't gotten back to my full workload of activities/work and not crash at night from exhaustion but I'm praying eventually get back to "normal".

Since the surgery I've lost around 33 pounds and my clothes are literally falling off of me.  I now wish I would have kept some of the clothes I gave away or sold in my Sorority's yard sale.  I've invested in some safety pins to hold me until I'm ready to buy new clothes, lol.  I've gotten lots of compliments from family, friends and my co-workers; while even getting some people interested in having WLS.  Like I said on the previous blog, I'm willing to let God use me as his vessel, even if its for WLS.

I've thrown up a couple of times when something got stuck, but I'm learning and not giving up.  My fiance' is the best!!!  If I get sick he doesn't want to eat, and I'm like, I'm ok baby.... what more could a woman ask for!?!?  But he's sooooo supportive and he's even lost some weight with exercising with me and cutting down on his food intake.  We're both looking forward to the wedding next year.  This surgery has given us both a new outlook on life individually and as a couple.

I heard a new song that has ministered to me and I want to share it with you all:
It's by Deion Kipping- "I Don't Look Like"

The song basically says I don't look like what I've been through.  Through being overweight and all the many trials and tribulations I've had over my 26 years here on earth, I can truly say I DON'T LOOK LIKE, WHAT I'VE BEEN THROUGH!!!  hallelujah.  To God be the Glory

3 Weeks Post Op
on September 25, 2008 1:45 pm
Hi all,

Well I'm 3 weeks post op and doing very well!  I've lost 26 pounds so far and countless inches and couldn't be happier.  Me and my twin have shocked everyone because we have healed and done so well that we've had to tell everyone about the man who has helped us get this far.  His name is .... JESUS!!!  "He's wonderful, glorious, holy, righteous, victorious, conqueror, triumphant and might, HEALER, deliverer, shield and defense, strong tower and MY BEST FRIEND, omnipotent, omnipresent soon coming king, Alpha, Omega, Lord of everything.  He's holy, holy, holy"...HALLELUJAH.   I'm just so full and greatful for all he's doing in my life and my sisters' because we are willing vessels.  To all who are waiting for their surgery, be patient and let your higher power lead you.  To all those who prayed and wished me well....THANK YOU!!!

2 days and counting!
on September 2, 2008 10:55 am
Well I'm two days away from surgery and I'm truly at peace!  I've met some great people as I've gone from the contemplation stage to the pre-op stage and I couldn't be more blessed than to met those who truly have my interest at heart.  At church on Sunday my pastor and the church prayed for us and the surgical team and he annointed us with oil... what a GREAT feeling to have my church praying for me and my sister!  As the scripture says the prayers of the righteous availeth much....AMEN

To those who are awaiting there dates for surgeries, be patient, things tend to work out when your higher power deems fit.  I'm greatful for this opportunity to a healthier, fitter and skinnier life and will try my best to keep everyone  updated on my process by blogging or posting pics!
