Surgeon Testimonial

Nicholas Bertha, D.O., F.A.C.S.
My PCP recommended Dr Bartha. The first time I meet Dr. Bartha was at a seminar. I know he was the doctor for me because he cared about all questions asked. He even stayed after the seminar for any personal questions that you wanted to ask. He was really caring. rnrnThe first appointment I had with Dr Bartha did not change. I had a list of questions to ask him and he answered every one of them and took his time. rnrnThe staff are all great and are willing to help with any questions. Dr. Garrason assisted with the surgery and also took out my drain and released me. He was great and has a great personality. rnrnSo far I am almost 7 months out and every appointment I had with Dr Bartha or his nurse was great. The nurse answers all questions I have ever asked and there have been a lot. rnrnBefore surgery Dr Bartha went through all risk with the surgery. Of caurse I had many questions about the risk especially that it was my first surgery. When going into the surgery I felt a ease and not over whelmed or even scared. I felt like I made the right choose to me and that I had all my faith in Dr. Bartha. He was wonderful to me and my family. I would recommend him to anyone and I have.

Tuesday is your day! Just remember you are on the journey of a lifetime. Try to enjoy every minute. It may sound weird now, but know that you are cared for and prayed for here, and all too soon this will be but a memory and you will be an inspiration to someone else. on February 29, 2008 7:42 am
2/28/08 was 6 months sinse having surgery and I feel great.  I was 286lbs before surgery.  As of today I am 218...........68 lbs gone for ever......I hope.  The last couple of months have been hard financialy and had to get a second job.  I don't mind working two jobs because it keeps me busy but I don't get the time I need to excersice and spend time with family and friends.  I will be walking mornings once it get warmer.  I do an excersice tape about twice a week when I have about an hour of free time.

Over all the last 6 months have been great.......I am healthy in the first time in years.  Looking forward to the next 6 months and what things will happen.

WOW what a long time!!!
on February 15, 2008 11:34 am

In 13 days I will be 6 months out of surgery and loving everyday.  I can’t believe it has been 6 months already.  Time flies when you’re having a good time.  I had very little problems.  I can eat about anything to a limit.  So many things have happened in the past 6 months.

First, I got a part time job at Shop Rite and I love it.  I would never have done this 6 months ago because I could not stand for a long period of time.  I work some days 6 to 8 hours with out problems.

Second, my brother paid me a compliment for the first time in my life. We were down in Orlando, FL on a family vacation.  He told me I was starting to look thin!  WOW!  That is a nice compliment from him.  Someone who teased me all my life and I respect him for saying that.

Third, I just went to go get my cross ring sized.  I got this ring for my 1st holy communion 25 to 28 years ago and it was a size 12.  The jeweler will be changing that to a size 9 ½……..WOW!  I just can’t believe that!

Forth, when I started this I was wearing a size 26/28 pants and 30/32 pants……today I am wearing a size 18 in pants and shirts.  I am still having a hard time letting go of the bigger clothing because I have the fear that it will not last.

Fifth, I was 286 before surgery and have lost about 4 lbs right before surgery.  I weight in at 282 the morning of surgery and today I am 217.  I have lost a total of 69 lbs…..WOW!

This is an amazing journey I am on and happy to share it with people who are on the same journey.

11/27/07 - 44 lbs gone for good
on November 27, 2007 5:33 am

I am so happy!  It has been 13 weeks since surgery and I have lost a total of 44 lbs for good.  I have a second job with is going good so far.  I am tired after working all day for two jobs but it is getting better.  I find myself missing water when I am at my second job.  I can not drink while I work but I can drink on my brake.  I can not be happier.

11/16/07 - started part time job
on November 16, 2007 5:51 am

Last night I started a part time job to help pay for some bills.  I don't think I would have ever done this if I did not get surgery.  I work for ShopRite part time at night and weekends.  I will be working as a cashier which should not be to bad.  Last night I was supposed to be training on a computer system but the system was not working so they had me bag all night.  It was not bad until around 9:30 when my back started to hurt.

Before starting for the day the manager gave me a smock to wear and he ask what size do you need.  The smocks went all the way up to 5X.  I was about to say give me a size 3X when I said to myself, wait you lost weight you don't need a 3X.  So I said give me a 2X and he said they run small.  I took the 2X anyway because if it was tight I will be lose soon enough.  It fit but was a little snug around my tummy but doable.

I just hope I can keep up with my full time job and part time job so I can pay off some bills.  I will keep you all updated.

11/7/07 - update
on November 7, 2007 9:08 am
So, today I am 243 lbs and lost a total of 39 lbs in 10 weeks.  I feel really good and am hoping to keep up with my schedule for the holidays.  I have dropped two pant sizes so I went through my sisters closet for cloths.  I needed some dress pants for work.  I got 10 pants from her cloths that will last me a month or so.  I find myself wanting to hold on to my larger sizes because I feel like I might go back to them one day.  I always lost weight and then gained it back with in a month or two.  But this time will be different I am starting to clean out my closet because my church is having a collection of clothing for the holidays.  I am looking forward to buying some new cloths for the winter.  Hopefully I will not spend to much money.

My Story

Well, I am 32 years old and hope to have the RNY really soon.  I looked into the surgery about 2 to 3 years ago and was told that I was just over weight and I was too healthy.  Last August I was told I had Type II Diabetes and was scared.
My family is all over weight.  I have an older sister who is married with 2 kids and an older brother who is also married with a son.  I live with my twin sister who is also over weight.  I love playing and hanging out with my nephews and niece but I want to have kids of my own one day.  I don’t think that will happen while I am over weight and have diabetes.
My twin sister thinks I should get the lap-band and is very supportive but I really want to get the RNY because I don’t want to get adjustments when needed.  My parents are also fully supportive and think I should get the RNY.  Hopefully I will get everything processed and approved by my insurance company soon.
The main reason I want this surgery is because my mother has had Type II Diabetes for more then 10 years and her health has gone down hill ever since and that scares me because I don’t want that happening to me.  My mother was well into her 40’s when she developed diabetes.  I am in my early 30’s and hope the same things don’t happen to me at a younger age.  My mother has had 4 major back operations because of arthritis and her diabetes.  She never was able to control her sugar levels no matter what she ate. She also has neropitie (I don’t think the spelling is right but it is when you can not feel your feet)  in both feet so she can no longer drive.  She is 56 now and walks with a walker and can not walk for long distances.  She is also on so many different medications for different reasons and I can not even remember.
I am currently working out 2 to 4 days a week at a gym and some times I feel weird walking in the gym.  95% of the people at the gym are fit and thin which intimidates me.  I work out with a trainer 2 times a week and I am still not losing any weight.  I do enjoy working out so hopefully I will be able to feel better at the gym after the surgery.
Besides getting this surgery done from my health, I am doing it just for my self.
