19 months since surgery, 190 lbs down!!!
on November 20, 2011 11:16 am
Hey everyone!!!  It's been a while since I've been on here.  I had surgery 19 months ago, and have lost 190 lbs.  I truly feel the best I've ever felt in my life.  I went from wearing a size 26 to now a size 8.  My best friend and I can share clothes, which is something that still amazes me, lol.  I still stay away from sugar, I'm deathly afraid of dumping syndrome, which if that keeps me away from sugar I'm fine with that.  Everything else in my life has pretty much stayed the same.  Someone asked me the other days if all the men are hitting on me since I look so great, lol.  I told them, not that I notice, but it would be uncomfortable for me to have that anyways cause I want someone to like me for what's on the inside, not the outside...  Also I've been with the same guy for almost 4 years now, and he loved me for me, even when I weighed 358 lbs  :)  So not sure what else more to say, except if you're looking to have this surgery or another weight loss surgery, it truly was the best decision I ever made for myself!!

1 year and 160 lbs gone!!
on April 20, 2011 7:05 pm
Wow, what a journey this has been.  Today, 4.20, marks one year since my surgery.  When I started this journey I weighed 358 lbs.  I had been heavy my whole life.  My life was getting harder and harder since I had no cartilage left in my right knee.  I also suffer from degenerative disc disease, and I have a bulging disc in my lower back.  I was tired all of the time.  I have now since lost 160 lbs!!  I’m in the hundreds, which I have never been able to imagine.  I didn’t care about being skinny, I just cared about being healthy, and have never felt more healthier In my life.  I can do things with such ease.    I have never had so much energy ever in my life!!  This last year seemed to just fly by.  I feel so lucky to have had such a great support system also.  I am so happy with my decision to have gastric bypass. :)

9 month update :)
on January 21, 2011 9:24 pm
I haven't been on here much lately, but figured I would update my blog.  It's been 9 months since my surgery, and I couldn't be happier with my decision to have the surgery!!  Thursday was 9 months and I celebrated it by going to Zumba for the first time with a friend, who also had open RNY, back in Nov.  It was so much fun, and I can't wait to go again!!  I've lost 140lbs and life is so much easier now.  I always thought I was lazy, but it's amazing how much energy I have now.  My bf had his 5th knee surgery back in Nov and this surgery was so much easier to take care of him.  I can run up and down the stairs with ease to bring him ice packs and anything else he needs.  It felt so good to be able to help him without the pain and tiredness of the year before's surgery.  I'm still unemployed at the moment, but I will be a nanny starting in Feb for my newborn nephew and I'm looking forward to it.  2011 is starting out to be a great year!!  :)

4 month update!!
on August 23, 2010 6:09 pm
Well, haven't done an update in a while so here goes!  I'm had my surgery 4 months ago, started at 358, and now I'm down to 268, 90 lbs gone forever!!  Feels great to know and see that I've lost weight.  The last 4 months haven't been the greatest, but haven't been the worst.  I'm happy I'm doing so good with my weight loss, but not so happy that I had to medically resign from my job.  I found out I have vasodepressor syncope and can no longer be a table games dealer because standing for too long puts too much risk on my heart.  Been sad about it, but been dealing with the whole job thing for a couple months now so i'm getting used to it.  Looking for a new job now!  Before surgery I was a size 26, I am now down to a 20, soooo awesome!!  It's been 10 yrs since I was able to fit in a 20, and i remember them being tight, and now they just fit.  Went shopping a couple days ago and bought some clothes that i'll be fitting into in a couple weeks probably.  the cup size of my bra hasn't changed, but the width around went from a 46 to a 40, very awesome also.  Overall I think I've got a handle on my surgery, and it's not so stressful getting everything in day by day.  I know there are some days i do better than others since i still haven't gotten that hungry feeling at all, but I've been trying more food, and seeing what works!  I haven't regretted having this surgery for a minute!

2wk Appointments!
on May 5, 2010 7:14 pm
I had my 2 week appointments today with my nutritionist and my dr's nurse.  My nutritionist graduated me off the only liquid diet.  We also discussed the next phase which i will start in two week.  After i sat with her i went to see Julie, my dr's nurse.  Met her for the first time.  She said my incision is healing very well and it seems i'm doing good.  I've lost 17% of what they expect me to, feels awesome to hear that.  Told her i've been having dizziness issues, so she's advised me to not drive for another week till i'm feeling better.  I told her i was having pain in my right calf muscle like a charlie horse, but she wanted to rule out a blood clot, so i had to leave right away and go to the outpatient place for the hospital right down the street.  Had an ultrasound done and the lady there said that all my big vains were great, no issues.  She said to watch it because it could be a superficial vain that's bothering me.  So i feel good, feel like i'm on track with everything!!  Can't wait to start eating some real food tomorrow!!!  Having hopefully my last protein drink!!

My Story

I'm 29 and I started this journey last Oct.  Ever since I can remember, I've been overweight, but because of my friends and family my weight was never an issue.  I never used my weight to stop me from doing anything.  Weight loss surgery has been on my mind for about 6 years, ever since my mom had it done.  It wasn't until my job and the pain I'm in every day took a toll on me in 2008 did I realize that gastric bypass could save my life, and give me a better chance at a healthier life.  3 1/2 years ago I started at Mohegan Sun Casino as a table games dealer, and I loved it, besides the constant back pain I was in.  Found out in 2008 that I have a slipped disc and DDD(degenerative disc disease) and this past Sept I started having issues with my right knee and I realized I'm the heaviest I've ever been.  So I made the call to Dr Aranow's office and made the choice to change my life.
Ever since I started this journey I've quit drinking coffee, which was really hard, I didn't know how much I lived on caffeine.  I use splenda now in tea or decaf coffee if i really need coffee.  I quit smoking Jan 31, which was also hard because almost everyone in my life smokes, plus i work in a casino, and can have my whole table smoking sometimes, but I've been strong and stuck to it.  So far I've lost 25lbs on my 1700 calorie a day diet and even though I've cheated a couple times here and there around my bday last week, I'm back on it because I now have a date for my surgery.  I'm nervous but really excited about it.  I want my life back, a healthier life.  I want to be able to work and do things without so much pain!!
