Surgeon Testimonial

Wade Barker, M.D.
I work in a hospital and know of Dr. Barker's reputation. He is a superb surgeon. My first impression is that he is very busy, which speaks good and bad. He is good about answering questions, you must prepare your questions in advance, because there is no time to waste. Too much time is spent waiting in the office. I consider my time valuable too. Everyone in the office is professional, friendly and seemingly kind. I guess the bottom line for me is that I want the best whenever it comes to surgical knowledge and ability. I think Dr. Barker is on the A list, both capable and knowledgeable.

Hi everyone. I just got home from seeing Melinda and Stephanie at the hospital. They both came out of surgery just fine. Both were in a lot of pain. Stephanie had severe pain and had nausea...that was to be expected. Stephanie also ended up having a hiatal hernia, so the surgery took a bit longer than expected. Melinda's surgery was earlier during the day. Melinda had already been walking the halls and eating ice. Stephanie didn't get out of surgery until a little after 8PM, but she didn't get up to the room until about 10PM. Hopefully both of them will get some rest tonight, but I doubt that, since they were both in so much pain. It was wonderful meeting and visiting with Stephanie's husband Clay and daughter Hailey. They both said that Dr Barker looked exhausted when he finished Stephanie's surgery. Well, let me tell you, so did Stephanie! I am glad they were both there to help her out throughout the night. Melinda had a really great friend staying the night with her to help her make it through the night. Please keep both of these beautiful ladies in your prayers and thoughts during their recovery. I am including their pages, if you want to stop by and give them some well wishes! http://www.obesityhe lp.com/member/steph5 5/ http://www.obesityhe lp.com/member/melind arn/

I started thinking about doing this surgery a little over a year ago. I researched and actually decided to be pro-active the beginning of this year. Looking back, it has passed by quickly but as I look ahead toward surgery, it seems to go ever so slowly.

It has been within the past 10 years that I have become so heavy. As it has happened, I recognize the discrimination and feel the pain that is owned by the obese. Some of the pain is self inflicted, as I think we are all our own worst critics. There are physical and mental limitations. Yet not all is brought on by self. I look forward to making this life change, but no matter how much healthier I become, I will forever be changed. I commit to always be compassionate, merciful and understanding of obese people.

One week away!!!
on July 22, 2007 12:26 am
I am completely excited about the surgery coming up so soon. But I am terribly freaked out because I have been really sick for the past 5 days. I am on antibiotics but am still afraid that whatever infection I have, will not be clear in time for surgery. Most of the time that I get sick it somehow manages to decide to set up camp in my lungs. ARRRGGGHHHHH!!! The frustration of it all. Well I am sure many others before me have had issues like mine or worse than mine and there will be those to come. Please pray for me that I am healed and in good shape for a positive outcome in my surgery.

TWO WEEKS AWAY!!!
on July 17, 2007 12:58 am

Oh my gosh!!! 2 weeks and counting. I cannot wait! Fear? Not really. Mourning food??? Of course! Food has been used for coping for a very long time, and I am a bit scared of letting go of it. Although the power of being healthy, feeling good and not standing out in the crowd is stronger than the fear.
